"^MUXVILLE INS 5 BaVDK 00. Report of Committor Appoioud by the BiockboMltr. of the MillrUl* SJtu.J (, liuniK 4nd Pif. to tlir lfeiubw* of the ltillviilv Mutual Marino and Fire lnauranoa Company. After as careful an examination of Ibt a flairs of the Company as we have been able to make, we hove arrived at the following uoncluftions : There ao^v4i»nc« whatever of any fkatid on -the part of the officers or em ployed pf the Oompent^ f 4 We are satisfied that tne Mutual Corn pany has sustained no direct injury by reeeon of the Stock Company. With the exception of Mr. 8. F. Fries, the individual stockholders of the Stock Company, received no profits or benefit whatever. At a time, when both Companies f err .doing aisueou^fnl hpstnyss, Mr./.j-SuJIord 5|r. Vhft sum of #2,837.14 for his interest In the Stock Company ; this amount was afterward returned to Mr. Mulford bv the Stock Company 'before the transfer to .the Mutual 'Company was' made. > At the close of 1878, the Stock Company had an admitted surplus over all liabilities of sixteen thousand dollars. At this time, all the assets and liabilities of the Stock Company were transferred to the Mutual Company. This admitted surplus of gixteon thousandftfollnrs was increased to the sum of about twenty-five thousand dollars by th^ Motual Company realizing upon various securities, notes, Ac., not admitted by the Commissioner of Insurance at the time the transfer was made. <Jf the fcixjty thousand dollars in notes turned over to the Mutual Company, less th£j) seven thousand dollars remain unpaid. The transfer of the assets and liabilities of the Stock Company to the Mutual tympany was proposed a ad urged, by thw Cc'iiwuissioner of Insurance. The receipt# of the Mutual Company for years 1877^ 1878 and 1879, were $810,03 1 .00, and the Losseirfor the some time amounted to $445,969.00. NV> find a comparison of the Millville Mntual's expenses with these of the Cumberland Mutual Fire Insurance Company, (that Company having justly the reputation of being managed with unusual economy,) to be as follows : MILLVILLE. 1877. JOHN BODINE, G. W. BAILEY, DANIEL 811 A 1(P, S. B. JARMAN. The above report is not only clear and pointed, but it id particularly weighty from the feci that it ha? been in ado by a committee of gontlomen whose ability and integrity can not be questioned, and who have been selected ' from different sections of South Jersey M gentlemen who had been in no way connected with the financial matters of the company in the past, and therefoie could have no object in "coveting up"' any of the facts. A prominent member of the committee was (j. W. Bailey, • Esq., of Camden, than whom there is no better authority, in insurance mat- 1 ters, in the State of New Jersey. It has been said that there were too many clerks in the office, etc., but the ! table given above shows that the run- i ning expense.* of the office Were less by ! at least 2 per cent, than those of the Cumberland Insurance Co. ; and no one disputes that the latter is an economically oonductcd company. This report cannot but satisfy all fair minded men that* the assessment now made is a fair and honest one, and w« have no doubt that the policy holder* will- fool that they are morally a# well n* loyally J H»uhd to pay it, and will do so promptly.
