Raising Ton* Quails. Henry Ben brook, 'a dealer In game residing at Raritan, has succeeded in raising young quails, an operation that has been tried in the United States repeatedly, but which hitherto has proved futile. Four years ago he captured two Morris-county quails, the female being lowland and the male highland. The female laid twenty-four eggs the first year, but could not be induced to uct. The .tt-ooud year Mr. Benbrook was in Canada, and nothing was done With tho bird*. The third year the female made its nest, laid twelve egga, and after setting ten day* died. The male bird thvn xat on the eggs, and six quail* wore hatched. They were all | raised by Bonbrbok, and are still living. These young quails began laying bu May 21 last, and up to July 31 have laid one hundred and eight egg*, hut they show no sign* of setting as yet. Some of the eggs were placed under a | bantam chicken and six of them hatched, and the quail* are alive to-day. This | experiment of raising young quails has | lioen 'undertaken by game societies all over the world for year*, but this I* the first any one has succeeded, so far os the record show*.
