Commencing on Friday last and continuing until Monday evening, the warmest and most oppressive temperature of the season won experienced bore. The culminating point was reached on Saturday, when the thomomoter indicated 94 degrees in the shade during the greater part of the day. Combined wtth the intense heat, the remarkable hunidiUdf the atmosphere rendered active out-door employ, ments almost out of the question. On Monday the heat was less, nt night , it began to rain and up to the -present writing has not ceased, The thermometer on Thursday morning had fallen to AO degrees. Recently while Surrogate IJvermoro of Gloucester county was searching the record book for the year 1794, he came across a rather quaint entry, showing \ in those days the Surrogate had but little to do, and that time must have bore heavily upon him. One half the pago was profosely illustrated with pen figures, the central one being that of a woman's head, probably intendod to represent th^Uoddess of Liberty, Following came a few lines, which he bad certified tf as being a correct transcript of the proceedings of the court far the entire term, consisting of the settlement of but one small estate. Gloucester oounty at that period included all of the present counties of (\imden, At lantic and part of Gape May. The Directors of the Month Jersey Camp Ground, nt Seavillc, have had reason to believe that one A ley I 111 dreth has been selling various intoxh cants for some time, and that within ft stone's throw of their Gamp Meeting, not until Saturday last eould they i

On Wednesday afternoon of lost week Mr. Gamaliel Garrison, a man aged about 75 years, and living in his house at Goshen alone, was found on the carpeted floor in bis Led rootu in a dying condition, with a severe contusion over tho left eye at lite top of his fortdmad. The old inau had hern to camp meeting on the day before, and the foot of his not being soen on Wednesday alarmed his nephew Wm. Garrison, Jr., whose residence is nearly opposite, and about 2 p. m. he determined to see what was wrong. He found the doors locked and and tlie windows apparently fastened down, hut succeed od hi getting one sash up, and discovered his uacle in the above condition. Drs^Carll, of Dennisville, Swain, of Goshen, and Wiley, of Court House, were sulwequently summoned. After considerable time the old until was sufficiently aroused to answer some unimportunt questions. In reply to the question, "Did any one strike you T" he answered "No," and very soon after relapsed into unconsciousness. The physicians found that the blow had produced concussion and compression of the brain, which was followed by complete paralysis. There was no evidence of any *tru«*<dc about O** * (U J1'^- as u.u> L ^ »• %» jmlooks as though there liuU been loul play, and an attempt at murder, but as far as we can learn there is no evidence of anything having been taken. About $1000 was found in a drawer, $850 in checks in an envelope, and about $2.50 in change in his pockets ; his watch was found in the room. Ho lcinaintMl in an unconscious state until Saturday night when he died. SEAYILLE CAMP.

Thursday afternoon, Sept. 2., sermon by Rev. William T. Abbott, from the Text, "Where art thou," Gen. Ill, 9. Mr. Abbott was master of bis subject ; he brought out some very important points, calculated to awaken thoughtfulness on the part of the unconverted and move the believer to self-examina-tion. The discourse was followed Vy n stirring exhortation l»y Rev. Fcrniey of the Philadelphia Conference. Thursday evening a largo and alien|y w? wmNmlMfntA .49 ■juftnpoA Text for the occasion 1 King*, XVIII, 21. The sermon was replete with pleasing illustrations and delivered with . much feeling nnd earnestness. Friday morning Rev. A. North ofCnpe Mnv City delivered a most excellent ser- , moil from the Text. "What Think Ye of Christ," Matt, XXII, 42. For 8im-_ ; plicity, thought, and finish tlie discourse will niuk among the best or the camp. Some of the leading points were, "What think you of Christ as a man, a# a citizen, in the treatment of his encmies, as a Redeemer ?" At the close of the discourse the presiding Elder anj nounccd having received n telegram from Rev. Harrison, who said he would leave Philadelphia for the enmn at 3.10 P. M. This statement was received with great delight by the congregation, who had hitherto demonstrated the ; truth of the proverb — "Hope defcied ' ninkc-th the hcurt tick." Rev. H. 8, Norria preached in tho afternoon n deeply interesting sermon from Matt. XI X, ltV-22. At the usual hour in the evening a very able sermon was preached by the Rev. P. Provost of this town. He took as his subject, "The Builders." Text, Matt. VI 1, 2427. He^vas followed by one of those peculiar, moving exhortations characteristic of Mr. Harrison ; this wn* fo|. low»-d by an old fashioned Methodist j prayer meeting with blessed results. Saturday morning Rev. G. K. Morris, of Vineland, delivered an eloquent discourse on the "Water ot Life," which j called forth many hearty aniens from | the audience. The services of the afternoon ami | evening were under Brn. Harrison's direction, and his labors woro abundantly blessed of God. Hunday morning we found a congre- • cation of at least 4000 persons o*»cm- | bled to hear the Rev. Dr, Rartino. In the evening the great boy preacher again led the meeting and many soul* were benefited, tin Monday night a large audience assembled to take part the "hreaking camp," and the services were kept up until after one o'clock on j Tuesday, in spite of tlio rain which fell nt frequent intervals during the evening. So loath were the people to leave that after the final benediction, no one offering to move, tlie jovial Rider Hill stopped forward and said "For fear you do not know it, I will inform you that Sea* ville Cnmp Meeting is closed Thinking they inay lie of interest we give the following figures : There wore 8000 people on the ground on Sahliath last ; 5500 inside the circle and 2500 in the cottages and around the outside avenue*.
