They are all "Louis d'ora" of 1565 to ft&fl, being coined in the reign of Louis XII. and Ijotti* XV. The coins seem* to. have been buried for a great many years. They are worth " "... We congratulate Bro. Nichols, of the "West Jersey Iloneer,'* on his election, by an overwhelming majority, to the State Soimte from Cumberland county. A Nevada bishop says there is no Sun day in that State. , U i» a mining State, and mining is *o important and controlling an interest thai religion has to take a hack sent. The export of iron .ore from Spain in the first half of this year was 1«M> per cent, more than in 1870. Spain i* now full of commercial Englishmen, who run the railroads, mines, and vineyard*. The Spaniard* are not very fond of these Britons, hut can't get along without them. Nearly svery engine in Spain hails from Manchester or Birmingham. These are then hung In some airy loft, where thay will not be liable to be affect ad by moisture rising from anything stored beneath, or be attacked by insects

1 u, VncT* ca i From the most reliable authority we have command it seem, thai when Oliver Cromwell became Piotector of England he caused the stamp of the cap of liberty to be placed upon the pa|H-r used by the Goterqrorul ; goon after the restoration of Uharie* 11.; when he had occasion to use sotno paper for dispatch**, so me of thi* Government paper was brought to him ; on looking at it he inquired the meaning of it, and on being told, he said : Take it away ; 1*11 have nothiug to do with a fool's cap f. Thus originated the trtrni foolscap j-j which has since been given to a sixe of writing ]>aper, usually 16x13 ipebes. Charles was so- witty in word* and so worthless in deeds that lifter the people liad oome to understand hi* ways, some one pinned up one day this epitaph i "Hvre lie* our sovereign, the King. Whose word no man ftdja* ou ; lie never sskl a foolish thing. And never did a «1w one." Charles laughed when lie read this, and »*id that the rcuton whs hi* word* were his own, but his sets were hi* ministers. So he aliped out of the reproach. -0 ^ 0 i ■ ■ ' ' The dislike which some women feel to house-work and house-keeping — a dislike that often becomes morbid through a consciousness of their utter inability to eseapo from what is to them the veriest drudgery— is apt to bring one of two results. Either there is an ill ordered home, a fretful scolding wife, an unhappy husband and sad faced or quarrelsome children, or a prematurely broken down wife and mother merging rapidly into a confirmed invalid, if she lives at all. In both eases the matter i* a perfect mystery to the masculine head of the family, who cannot understand why the bright faced, rosy cheeked maiden ho wooed and won for his bride should have changed into thisquorulous, fault-finding woman. And how should ho? We suppose thnt a vast majority of our sex are in truth as poorly qualified to judge of the difficulties in housekeeping, its troubles and self denials, as w as tho rural trustee who addressed tne school after this manner: "Well, good bye. childron. Yer reads well, an1 yer spell, well ; but yer hain*t sot still." Of course there is one thing which woman in easy circumstances can do who dislike housekeeping. Having

roranrnntT unamint en* tho ditties at wife and motfeer, no earthly power can free her from the responsibilities inseparably connected with them, but she may delegate the purely mechanical part — that which discourages and exhausts, to a subordinate and thus manage to make her home comparatively comfortable, and her own life not quite insupjxirtable. She had better do this even at tho sacrifice of many luxuries she might otherwise enjoy. A Scotish criminal trial is a model of fairness and deliberation. The accused is in good time Served with a very precise indictment, along with a list of the witness** to I* used In evidence against him. At the trial the juroi* are chosen by ballot, and each is furnished with a printed copy of the indictment, with ! paper, pen and ink to write notes of I evidence as it proceed*. The trial logins by the clerk of the court reading the indictment, by which moans the exact nature of the accusation is openly and clearly defined, and there is no need for a lengthened prefatory harangue by counsel for the prosecution. The Indictment being read, the evidence is at once proceeded with. Any one enn compare this precision with what occurs, and is occasionally complain^ of, in England. A Scottish jury may give h verdict of guilty, not guilty or*not proved, this lust alternative being adopted when the evidence appears to be incomplete. There is no such altorwrttoc In Knghmrt . In English criminal procedure the jury consist* of twelve men, who must he unanimous in their verdict of guilty or not guilty ; ; when not being able to agree, after ; hour* of wrangling together, they are I dismissed, thereby occasioning a new trial. In Scotland the thing is conducted more hi accordance with human nature. The jury is eomj»o*ed of fifteen men. who, if not unanimous, may de cide by a majority, such as eight to •even, or possibly fourteen to owe, by which means a juror with twisted notlons, resolved on being singular as of* ten happen*, is unable to thwart the ends of justice. The decision by a me* joritr is accepted without demur. In the trial of civil case* a latitude is also allowed. The jury consists, as in Kng* land, of twelve men \ but if they have i been in oonsulutton for three hours a majority of nine is sufficient for a vei« diet. If after nine hours there he not a majority of nine, the jury may be dis missed. These Sootish arrangements seem to be in all roapacta more rational than the practice prevalent In England , and Ireland* No one ever heard of a
