ADULT VOLLEYBALL
Two games were played in the Middle Township Recreation Dept. Adult Volleyball League on Tuesday night at the 4-H Sports Center. Acme Markets swept the Jamesway Jumpers by scores of 15-8, 15-6, and 15-4. According to Coach Senser Taylor, the Acme wins were prompted by the serving ability of Barry Wexler, the good defensive play of Larry Rotundo and Gordon Hansen, and the good all-around backup play by Jack Reed. In the second game, the Optimists defeated Murphy’s Mart 15-9, 0-15, and 15-12. The
second game provided the first shut-out of the league season. In his statement to the press, Coach Carl Baker stated that his second unit (the Optimists had 12 players on hand) fell apart in the second game and it was nip and tuck in the 3rd game in which he used his first unit. He feels that the team is rounding into shape and will be in contention for the championship. The League Standings (W-L): Kiwanis, 5-1; Acme, 4-2; Sheriffs Dept., 4-2; Optimists, 3-3; Jamesway, 1-5; Murphy’s Mart, 1-5.

Your outside-leg is stiff! Bend your outside leg during the turn! How often we hear those comments. Fifty percent of beginning skiers have visibly stiff outside legs, and it is usually for the same reason - skiers try to force on the outside leg in order to turn, but it doesn’t work. Let’s see what we can do to correct this problem. Perhaps you were told, or by watching other skiers, you think it is necessary to turn your upper body in order to turn your skis. This is the most common mistake. Example - the upper body pivots, the rear end is pushed to the outside, the skis
don’t follow, and the skier forces with his outside leg and You will not correct this problem unless you try to turn with your legs and not your
upper body.
If you learned to turn through snowplowing, and you have the habit of forcing on your outside leg in order to turn, you must try to open less of a stem or snowplow at the beginning of the turn to improve. Maybe your outside leg is stiff because you are carrying all or most of your weight on your inside ski. Try to feel if this is your case. Perhaps the stiffening of your outside leg gives the impression that you’re weighting the leg properly. This is a common error. To correct this situation try to weight both skis during the whole turn. Feel your rear end remain between bo
