John Denver Film at County Park
The Cape May County Park’s “Nature Shows" goes big time later this month when well known singer John Denver is featured in a film presentation. The Jan. 20th feature film is "Big Horn" starring John Denver and his close friend, naturalist Tommy Tompkins. The film takes Denver and his audience on a trip through the rugged wonders of the American and Canadian Rockies and depicts the lifestyle of the native wildlife. IN addition, the film “In Search of the Bowhead Whale” will be shown at the January 20th Nature Show. It was produced during an April 1973 expedition off the coast of Alaska; an expedition similar to one planned by Stockton State
College off the New Jersey coast later this winter. The Nature Show is presented free of charge at the Cape May County Park Nature Center each Saturday afternoon at 2:00 P.M. Donations to offset the cost of the presentation are accepted. “You can’t find a less expensive Saturday afternoon baby-sitter for two hours," according to park naturalist Howard Stoddard. This week’s films at the Nature Show, Sat., Jan. 13th are “Flash, The Teenage Otter" and “The Forest Fisherman.” There is ample free parking near the Nature Center on the park grounds. The county park is located on Rte. 9 at Crest Haven Road, north of Cape May Court House.

Held at the Club House, Bayshore & Weber Rds. Bird Seed The Cape May Bird Observatory’s second Bird Seed Savings Day will be held Sat., Jan. 27th at the Wetland’s Institute, Stone Harbor Blvd., Middle Twp. Orders for the several varieties of seed can be made by calling CMBO at 368-3156. All orders for the 27th sale must be placed by Jan. 14th. A CMBO staff member will be on hand to take your orders and answer your questions Tuesday through Saturday. Bird Seed Savings Day is a cooperative effort of many wildlife organizations in the East providing high quality wild bird food at low prices. All income resulting from the sale will be used to maintain CMBO’s efforts here in Cape May. It is important to remember that once birds come to rely on your feeding station, it should be maintained constantly. To discontinue feeding during the winter will force many birds to leave your area in hopes of finding other food sources. Since most natural areas already have the largest number of birds that they can carry through the winter, the chances that these displaced late season wanderers will make it through the winter are slim.
