SPORTS Cape May County Youth Soccer

The Cape May County Soccer Association begins its third year featuring an expanded youth program. The program will be available to all boys and girls born within the years of 1964 and 1972. Teams will be arranged to include those brn in 1970, 1971, and 1972 in the Junior group. 1967, 1968 and 1969 in the Middle group and 1964. 1965 and 1966 in the Senior group. The registration fee will be $6.00 to cover the cost of insurance and patches that will be given to each participant. League games will begin April 7th. General registration will be held on Sat., Jan. 20th from 12-2 P.M. at the Stone Harbor VOLLEYBALL R. Way Travel played the Disillusionytcs in Cape May Power Volleyball League Tuesday night. R. Way Travel with Don Rhinesmith, Gil Sinkway. Walt Tumier and Donny Rhinesmith. starring, won 2 our of 3 games. In other games. Acme defeated Sheriffs 15-2, 15-7, 15-6; Optimist Club bested Kiwanis. The Optimists won the first game on a forfeit, then Kiwariis Showed up and beat the Optimists 15-7 but lost the last match 2-15. Murphy’s beat Jamesway 16-J4, 15-6, 7-15. The League Standings are as follows. Acme 10-2, Kiwanis 6-3 Optimist 7-5, Sheriffs 4-5, Murphy’s 4-8 and Jamesway 2-10. FLAG FOOTBALL MINI-BANQUET The Raiders and the Cowboys, bitter rivals on the football field, sat together at a mini-banquet held in their honor at the Legion Home in Court House on Saturday night. The highlight of the evening was the awarding of the Most Valuable Player awards for both the Raiders and the Cowboys. The recipients were: Most Valuable Player Offense: Tommy Repici, Raiders; Michael Raines, Cowboys. MOst Valuable Player Defense. Keith Maund, Raiders; Harry Angstadt Cowboys.

Field, Stone Harbor (81st St. and Beach Ave.) The rain date is Sun., Jan. 21st from 1-3 P.M. Please bring your original birth certificate and a photostatic copy for our records. Adult volunteers arc needed to help coach or referee. No soccer experience is required. Anyone who wants to volunteer his or her time, please call Gerry MacFarlanc at 9674342 or Ray Batz at 465-9772 or Mary Helverson at 967-8085. Participation will be the keynote. Every child regardless of ability will play at least half of each game if he or she regularly attends practice.

RAMSAY SCORES HOLE-IN-ONE W. Frank Ramsay, a Stone Harbor resident and avid golfer for many years scored a hole-in-one on Jan. 10th while golfing at the Miles Grant Country Club, in Stuart, Fla. Ramsay made his ace on the par three, 104 yard, 11th hole with a nine iron shot. This was the first time he ever scored a hole-in-one. Ramsay is a long time member of the Wildwood Golf and Country Club where he was runner-up in the 1977 President’s Cup Tournament losing that title by a stroke to Dave Shevlin.

Most Improved Player: Kenny Watson, Raiders. A special plaque was presented to Coach Mark Robbins of the Raiders by Capt. Keith Maund on behalf of the Raiders for his dedicated coaching after taking over the team for the playoffs. The Raiders won the title with two wins in the series. Celebrities present were Freeholder Ralph Evans, who praised the program; Carl Baker, President of the Recreation Commission and Gregg Arnold, Recreation Director of Middle Township who also refereed the games.Coaches Dave Griffin and Bill Sherman introduced their players and the main speaker of the evening was Paul Goslin, former NFL Player who gave an inspiring talk to the players. Paul's chiief claim to fame is that he was the roommate of Billy "White Shoes" Johnson of the Houston Oilers while they were students at Widner College in Pa. He was a big hit with the boys. The boys and their parents agreed that a great time was had by all. The mini-banquet is an annual affair held at the conclusion of the Flag Football season.

science of communications were combined with feats of magic in an interesting and entertaining program for the Stone Harbor Lions Gub Wed., Jan. 10th at

the Whitebrier.

MIDDLE TWP. SOCCER TEAM The Middle Township Socce Team which won the honors in South Jersey Group II competition was honored at a dinner held by the Court House Kiwanis Club last Thursday. Among those present were the varsity players, coaches and managers and their parents who heard Coach of the Year Ray Batz extol his players and give the history of soccer at Middle Township High. He stressed the importance of playing the game in a sportsmanlike way as well as having an intense desire to win. That his methods are successful is attested by his team’s winning of the Sportsmanship Trophy, chosen by the referees who saw all the games. This trophy was then presented to Supt. of Schools, Theodore Johnson who accepted it for the Board of Education. Coach Batz wound up the evening by introducing his players and evaluating their performances, plus a look ahead to next year. It looks like a soccer dynasty at Middle Township High School. Members of the squad were: Kevin "Doc” Cramer, Co-Capt., Gary Hunter, Todd Coolidge, Mike Fiorucci, Co-Capt., Palle Neilsen, Ronny Grant, David Gunther, Mickey Rice (ab), Carsten Schulze, Dale Swaglcr, Danny Errickson, Jim Pickering, Tom Agli, Rick Stout, Bob Beilinghoff, Dan Hicks, Michelle Carr (ab), Brenda Yocum, Vicki Countiss and Kim Hunter. CLEVELAND INDIANS MANAGER GUEST FOR LIVE CALL-IN One of the youngest managers in baseball, Jeff Torborg of the Cleveland Indians, is special guest with Dick Landis for a live call-in “That’s It In Sports” airing Saturday, Jan. 20th at 4:00 P.M. on New Jersey Public Television channel 23.
