“The Life Beyond Death ”

Jerome Ellison

Jerome Ellison, author and psychic researcher, will speak on “The Life Beyond Death” at Atlantic Community College Sat., Jan. 27th. The speech will begin at 8 p.m. in the auditorium of Walter E. Edge Hall on ACC’s Mays Landing Campus. Admission is free and open to the public. The lecture reviews the evidence for the life beyond death, with special emphasis on modem scientific authority and recent personal experience. Ellison will discuss the transition to the after-world, its essential nature, stages of after-life

development and how psychic ability develops. Ellison has earned a national reputation as novelist, editor, and essayist. His interest in the life beyond death began quite unscientifically when, as a boy, he heard an account of this realm from his psychically gifted mother. His appearance is part of the college’s 1978-79 Cultural Series.

OPINION

Girl Scouts New Emblem GIRL SCOUTS

WHAT DO YOU THINK?

Juliette Low, who started Girl Scouting in the U.S.A., and Lady Baden-Powell, wife of the founder of the Boy Scouts and the founder of the Scouting Program for Girls, must be turning over in their graves. The Girl Scouts of the U.S.A. have just introduced a new emblem to identify the Girl Scout Organization which in my estimation would be more appropriate on a shampoo

package.

We wonder how many of those who are the backbone of Girl Scouting - the girls involved and the volunteer leaders and workers - had a chance to comment on the new design. The explanation for the new design and a public relations campaign which accompanies it

is “that the Giri Scout Organization is often confused with the Boy Scouts and the general public is unaware of some of the organization’s

programs.”

As both the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts originated in the same family, (Lord Baden-Powell founded the Boy Scouting move/hent), there is naturally a similarity of emphasis, goals and motivation. How many people really confuse these 2 organizations which have been active in this country for almost three quarters of a

century?

The firm of Bass/Yeager Associates has packaged a whole new identify for Girl Scouts, starting with the new emblem This firm is responsible for similar identity programs for United Airlies, Alcoa, Warner Communications and AT&T. While acknowledging that every volunteer organization must have a certain amo unt of paid administrative personnel, we wonder if those who are the paid administrators are as knowledgable about what the girls in scouting need as those volunteers who are actually working with the Girl Scouts. How much of the money donated to the organization actually benefits the girls directly? The money funding the activities of most troops comes from dues, a small share of the money raised from the cookies sold by that troop and other local money raising programs. The recent proposal to sell the National Girl Scout Camp near Washington, D.C. to developers raises the question of who is benefitting from such decisions. J.P. Cunningham
