Tuesday was a day to be remembered in the Middle Township Basketball program The Varsity defeated Wildwood Catholic 42-41 in one of the most exciting games of t)ie season. The J.V. Team won their game with the "Little Crusaders" 61-56 and the Baby Panthers beat their competition 39-31. In an unusual situation, Wildwood Catholic had no team fouls accumulated at the end of the' third quarter and consequently Middle did not go to the foul line, while the Crusaders were making their foul shots count. They made 9-14 for the game while Middle had only 2-7. Rewi Thompson. scored 6 points in the last quarter to put the Panthers ahead 40-39. Herb Jaudon then scored a lay-up to make it 42-39 and Bob Goodrich scored-for Catholic to make it 42-41 Jaybird Watkins led the scoring with 14 points with Thompson getting 10 and Jaudon 8. For Wildwood Catholic Tarbottom led with 9

and Leahy had 6 and Tom Lewis chipped in with 8 as did Namiotka. Along with their big brothers the Lady Panthers scored a last second basket to beat the Wildwood Catholic Girls 28-27 with 3 seconds remaining and the Lady Panthers ball at their end of the court, Coach Bill Penman resorted to the play that won for the Russian Olympic team against the U.S. A long pass downcourt hopefully to Laurie Budd, sharpshooter for the team and a quick shot on the hoop. However, the ball was deflected to Amy Brockman who put it in to win the game by one point. Wildwood Catholic shocked the high-scoring Lady Panthers who have lost only to the Ocean City Raiders and had been overwhelming their opponents and held them well in hand. Earlier this week, the Lady Panthers beat Hammonton 61-27 at Middle Twp. High School. Next game for the fair sex will be Friday at St. Joseph’s of Hammonton.

Skiing with Ed Trudel EPSIA-PSIA. .

DIRECTOR OF SKIING Bromley Mountain Manchester Center, Vt

Skiers who have difficulty initiating a turn without stemming are common because most skiers try to turn on the uphill ski prior to transferring their weight onto it. A stem will result every time. Timing is the key in parallel skiing. Vour weight should generally be transferred from the downhill ski (or the outside ski of a completed turn) as soon as you wish to initiate a new turn. Once the weight transfer is made, not before, you begin to turn. To improve timing and eliminate your stem, try this: Go to a gentle hill that you feel

comfortable on. Start in a steep traverse and make a complete weight transfer to the uphill ski, holding the downhill ski off the snow. When your weight feels comfortable over the uphill ski, begin your turn and turn the lifted ski at the same time as the weighted ski. Practice until you can perform this exercise easily in both directions. Remember, transfer your weight before trying to turn your feet.
