SOCIAL SECURITY INFO The amount of money people can earn without affecting their social security benefits generally depends on their age. The social security earnings test, designed to determine if people actually are retired or dependent on othen, has three age categories - under 65 65 to 72 and 72 and over. Under this testin 1979, people under 65 who receive social security benefits may earn up to $3,480 without affecting their checks. People 65 to 72 may earn up to $4,500 before their checks are affected. And people 72 and over may have earnings of any amount without affecting their checks. If people exceed these limits, their benefits will be reduced $1 for each $2 earned above the limit. The only time the monthly limits apply are in ! a person’s first year of retirement. A person’s first year of retirement is the first year after filing for benefits in which he or she neither earns the monthly limits of $270 for people under 65 and $375 for people 65 to 72, nor performs substantial services in self-employment. After that first year of retirement, a person’s social security benefit amount is affected only by his or her total yearly earnings. These monthly' and yearly limits do not apply to people receiving SSI payments nor to people receiving social security b ased on a disability. If you have further questions call, write or
visit the Social Security Office at 136 E. Spicer Ave., Wildwood, N.J. 08260 or phone 800-272-1111. C.M.C. STROKE CLUB Thp regular monthly meeting of The Cape May County Stroke Gub will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 20th at 7:00 PM. in the Conference Room of Burdette Tomlin Hospital.
