Kiwanis Basketball

When (he Sheriffs Dept, failed to show up, the Kiwanis Big Five playing with 4 regulars and Drake Williams, took on a pick-up team led by “Dangerous Danny" Daniels and went down to defeat 66-62 despite leading by 12 points at the end of the third quarter. For Kiwanis Tom Poponak led all the scorers with 26 points while Steve Frame had 12 and Drake Williams 10. For the Demons. Billy Hand led with 18 and Danny Daniels. Frank Brown and Joey DiGiacomo all had 12 points. Dave May led in rebounds with 8 and Doug Fulford had 7 and Drake Williams had 6. Kiwanis will entertain the Cape May Kiwanis Club in a return game at the Middle Township Gym at 8 P.M. next Monday. There is no love lost between these two teams and if Steve Frame and Dave May can hold “Bouncing Bill" Bezaire in check they can take the series for the Kiwanis Championship of Cape May County in 2 games. A.R.C. Presents Tennis Classic The Cape May County Chapter of the American Red Cross will present the 3rd annual Shore Tennis Classic on Saturday, March 24th and Sunday, March 25th at the Jersey Cape Racquet Club, Cape May Court House. Captain Jack Forrester is Tennis Director. Those on the Tournament Committee arc: Lolly Fergusdn, Avalon; Carole Yorborough, Avalon; Ginnie Crook, Stone Harbor and Stella Luke, Goshen. The Ladies and Mens Doubles Tournament is be ing sanctioned by the Middle States Tennis Association and will draw many of the top players from the middle states area. A champagne buffet will be held Saturday night. Fo' information call the Chapter office at 465-7382.

Although “The Rev” couldn't make it for. this game, his daughter ^Georgia and son George served as scorer and timer. Among the loyal Kiwanis fans were Mrs. Tom Poponak, Barbara Lord and son Charlie and vociferous Diane Croitor. with her menagerie of Shcrryl. Theresa, and “Teddy Boy" who amused themselves by throwing a ball along the sidelines and Mrs. Lena Croitor, Ted’s mother, who never misses a game that Ted, the apple of her eye plays. Lou L u t c r i , dynamic department store manager, served as assistant coach to the Kiwanis Athletic Director, Bill Sherman. Soccer Clinic Tonight

A clinic on soccer will be held at 7:30 p.m. tonight, Thursday. February 15 in the library of the Middle Township High School. The clinic is for parents and friends of soccer players who are interested in helping coach or referee for the Cape May County Soccer League.
