Bishop George H. Guilfoyle this week said that the Lenten season is "a special time to assess the quality of our Christian life, to gain new vigor in sharing the Good News we have heard and believed.” In a letter to the people of the six county South Jersey diocese, the Camden bishop noted that Lent is a time to “seek to turn and draw closer to the Lord, a time to open our hearts and minds to Him and to be willing to receive His love and light.” Bishop Guilfoyle urged that people direct them selves during Lent to conversion and penance as integral dimensions of personal growth and family living. The Bishop said: "This season St. Mary’s Episcopal Church St. Mary’s Episcopal Church at 95th St. & 3rd Ave., Stone Harbor Canon J. Perry Cox, Priest-iir Charge. John M. Long. The minister will speak on “The Inner \Circle” or the closest friends of the Christ. The worship hour is preceded by a time of hymn-singing. Sunday School meets at the same hour as the church worship, and is unta^ the supervision of Mrs. Gertrud^ Ilg. Organist f or ^e worship is Mr. Leander Croker. On the Monday following at 7:30 p.m. the Administrative Board will meet. First United Methodist Church
presents an splendid opportunity prayerfully to reflect on our conversion to and reconciliation with God. It is a time to ponder God’s love made manifest in the Lord Jesus and to recommit ourselves to living the promise of His Good News. The kernel and center of Lenten discipline must above all focus on spreading God’s love each day and most especially within the family community. All in our Christian community should consider with great seriousness their roles as witnesses of Christ, in the service
they render and in the charity which they show within the family and among friends and neighbors. Indeed, as individuals and as a community we are called to a new life in Christ." The Bishop added: "In this tirpe of Lent, as we open our hearts more and more to the love of God, we shall find ourselves better a We to grow in love for one another. Hence, part of our Lenten practice must be more consciously to assume.the duty of evangelization, proclaiming the life of Christ in daily living."
