Coaches Names for All-Star
Ken Leary and Pat Dougherty will lead respective boy and girl All-Star teams from the Cape Atlantic League in the First Annual Seagull Classic All-Star Game. Saturday. March 31. Bob Ixster and Joe Fussner of the South Jersey South Conference will head stand-out squads to oppose the CAL premier players. Assistant coaches and game officials were also named in a news release about the game that will be played at Holy Spirit High School in Absecon. New Jersey. Leary, the Pleasantville High coach, whose team was undefeated in regular season play, will be assisted by CAL mentors Jim Mogan of Sacred Heart and Jack Boyd of Ocean City. For the girls. Dougherty’s assistant will be Steve Ottenberg of Pleasantville. Ottenberg's team was runner-up to the 22-2 Ocean City Eagles Vs. Bears March 17 at'Base Philadelphia's pro-football team, the Eagles, will becoming to Cape May on March 17th to play the Coast Guard's basketball team, the Coast Guard Bears. Funds raised through the sales of tickets are for the benefit of the Coast Guard Chapel Building Fund at the Training Center. Tickets are on sale in limited quantities for the general public. For additional information call Phyllis Peabody, at 884-8451 Ext. 295. Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and4p.m. Game time is at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 17th at the Coast Guard Training Center Gymnasium in Cape May.

Hod Haiders, who captured the CAL title for the sixth straight year. Dougherty has coached the Haiders each of those years. Atlantic City’s Bob Lester will have Scott Beeten of Mainland and Ed Harvard of Vineland supporting His efforts as head of the South Jersey South Conference All-Stars. Lester led the ‘79 Vikings to another successful defense of their league title with a regular season record of 20-4. Fussner will direct the South Jersey Conference girls team. The Viking coach led his team to a 22-1 championship log and into Ihe state play-off wars. Fussner will be assisted by Frank Tummarello. Holy Spirit High girls coach. Coaches of the two leagues picked the mentors who would direct their respective All-Star teams. They also chose the officials for the games. Named as Heferees are Lou Grilli and John Pierontoz both men have worked CAL and South Jersey Conference competition. Fof the girls. Sue Voisvert and Leofdre Silvers will officiate. The Seagull Classic is affiliated with Holy Spirit High School and has sponsored major basketball tournaments since 1972. Proceed from the events have gone to regional charities and Holy Spirit. This year's profits will be donated to Our Lady's Residence, a home for senior citizens in Pleasantville. N.J.
