Co. Purchases on New System

CAFE MAY COURT HOUSE. N.J - Cape May County pur chasing moved into a new phase this month, following action by the Cape May County Board of Freeholders, to implement a centralized purchasing system which gets under way on. that

date.

With the creation of a pur chasing department County purchases and contracts will be brought into greater conformity with existing state laws and additional economics will be effected, according to Freeholder William Sturm, director of the County Dept, of Revenue and Finance. Freeholder Sturm said most of the county purchases come under competitive bid. Addition of a centralized purchasing depar-

tment will enable the county to effect even further economics in purchasing by eliminating duplication of effort on the part of the individual department heads and eventually cutting down on the actual number of individual

purchases.

Named to the post of county purchasing agent is William Deaver of North Wildwood. He was named to the position four months ago and has been setting up mechanics of the system in preparation for the change. Mr. Deaver has taken several courses at Rutgers University such as. Public Purchasing, Cooperative Purchasing, Specification Writing and Public Contracts l^w. in preparation for his new duties He has also been selected by Rutgers as one of 16 persons in

Victor Walton, former purchasing agent in Sea Isle City has been named as assistant purchasing agent. He is from Cape May. Walton has completed 25 . years in office management. Luretta Dramis of Green Creek completes the staff in the purchasing department. She worked in the County treasurer’s office before being transferred to the purchasing department. In an attempt to maintain a knowledgeable and professional purchasing department Mr. Deaver said Victor WaUon and luretta Dramis will be attending a ten week course in April & May on the principles of Public Purchasing at Rutgers.
