Camden — Bishop George H. Guilfoyle announced this week the resignation of Msgr. Gottfried Keis as pastor of Assumption parish^ Wildwood Crest, effective
May 1.
Msgr. Keis, bom in Nordendorf, Germany, in 1904, observed his 75th birthday on March 14. In making the announcement. Bishop Guilfoule said: “At his request I have accepted the resignation of Monsignor Keis as Pastor of the Assumption Parish in Wildwood Crest. He has served close to forty years in the Diocese of Camden and has been a true shepherd in the pastoral care of the people. Monsignor Keis is greatly admired by priests, religious and laity. Keis was ordained to the priesthood in July 1928 at the Klagenfort Cathedral. Following a'number of priestly assignments in his native land, Msgr. Keis served as associate pastor at St. Nicholas, Egg Harbor, from 1940 until 1949 when he was appointed chaplain at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital. He served as pastor of Assumption, Pomona, from May 1952 until becoming pastor at Wildwood Crest in November Star Of The Sea On Palm Sunday. April 8 at 3 p.m. the Parish of Our Lady Star of the Sea Cape May will celebrate the special liturgy of the Sacrament of Heaven in conjunction with the Sacrifice of the Eucharist. Transportation to the church .will be provided for the shut-ins and infirm. Dr. Andrew Drake, several nurses and the Cape May Rescue Squad will be on hand in case of emergency. Refreshments will be served in the Parish Hall. Anyone wishing to attend may do so by calling the rectory at 884-

1969. He was named a Papal Chamberlain in 1963, a Prelate of Homor in 1967 and a Protonotary Apostolic, the highest rank in the monsignorship. in May 1978. Msgr. Keis said that "in remembering the thirty-nine years with the Camden Diocese. I am filled with thanksgiving and gratitude — first, for Bishop Eustace who listened to the needs of the Egg Harbor people for a German-speaking priest, where I was able to stay for almost ten years to learn the language and customs of America, and then to begin the revival of Pomona in 1952 when Bishop Eustace named me the first pastor of Assumption parish in Pomona. I am grateful for being a part of the growth of the Pomona-Absecon area. “I am grateful also to Bishop Guilfoyle for his foresight and wisdom in assigning me to Assumption parish in Wildwood
Crest.
“I am grateful for the many kindnesses and consideration given to me these past thirty-nine years, and I hope that in a small measure I was able to contribute to the growth of the Camden Diocese.” Plans presently underway for a celebration in honor of Msgr.
