Five area youth won trophies in their respective weight classes at two junior wrestling tournaments held recently in Vineland. Chi March 17, at the Association for Promotion of Wrestling in South Jersey tournament, five wrestlers from the Middle Townnhip Recreation Department team received trophies. Winners were Steve Jones, first place in the Junior heavyweight class; Darral Hodges second place in the Midget division heavyweight class; Jon Herr, second place in the Intermediate 75 pound class, Maurice Hubbard, third place in the Junior 75 pound class and Curt Matthews, fourth place in the Junior 75 pound class. themselves by taking additional honors at the Region II Tournament of the N.J. Federation Kid’s Folk Style. Winners Included Steve Jones, second place in the 12 and under heavyweight’ Jon Herr, second place in the 14 and under 75 pound class and Maurice Hubbard second place in the 12 and under 75 pound class. These three young ment, because of their placing, are now eligible for additional tournaments in the area. These two tournaments, sponsored annually by the Association for the Promotion of Wrestling in South Jersey, drew more than 800 participants from 14 tekms throughout South Jersey. This field included young wrestlers who are recognized both nationally and internationally in the collegiate and Graeco-Roman styles of wrestling. The tournament is a credit to all the young men and their coaches who give of their lime for a sport that demands so much of the individual. The coaches for the Recreation Department team for this season included George Herr, Chris D’Ercole and Gregg Arnold. The wrestling program will hold clinics during the summer in preparation for next season.

Kiwanis Remains Undefeated

By Bill Sherman In a game played at the high school gym on Thursday nighl, the Kiwanis Club of Cape May Court House remained undefeated by beating the Press AllStars by a score of 68-46. After a slow start in which neigher team could score Kiwanis, found the range and pulled away to a comfortable Capt. Dave May led all scorers with II points, backed up by Danny Daneils and Kevin Sherman each with 14. For the Press, the "Circulation Flash" Bob Foltz made 14 points, with Steve Jungworth and Larry MuUcey getting! each. The game was officiated by Barry Willkie, while George and Georgia Reasner kept the score. Collegians Still Tops Billy Mulligan's basketball team representing "The Inn" in the Villas, won a firehouse type of basketball game from the Lifesavers of the U.S. Coast Guard at the base on Wednesday night by the score of 140-124. The following high scores were rung up. For the Coast Guard, Pope had 42 points with Girard Getting 32, for Mulligan's crew, Bobby Holt had 42 with Mike Couront getting 32 and Kane and Moore having 22 and 20 respectively. Nobody bothered to play any defense but gunned the ball from all over the floor. A return game will be played this week. Meanwhile, the Collegians took another game from St. Ann’s Stars of Wildwood last Sunday by the score of 74-62. High scorers were Gary Cripps for St. Ann’s and Mike Couront for Mulligan’s each getting 28 points. Bobby Holt of Mulligans had 12 and Welch 10 points. Scully of St. Ann’s got 10 and Craven 8. After a lay-off of one week the series will resume on April 1st.

Many fans turned out to see their local he roe cavort on the basketball court. 4 * * The undefeated Kiwanis basket ball team, romped over the Middle Twp. Fire Company team Monday night, by a score of 62-36. Dave May and Billy Adams, playing against their usual team mates, were unable to stop the Kiwanis avalanche, led by high scoring Tom Poponak, who had 22 points to lead all the scorers. Capl. Steve Frame, back from a sojourn in Florida, helped out with 14 points and Kevin Sherman and Billy Hand had eight points each. For the Fire Company, who showed the lack of practice, Capt. Dave May played a strong game netting 18 points in a valiant effort to show up his Kiwanis buddies. Also playing for the Fire Company were Cally Back, Bruce Back, Dave Bond, Billy Adams, Jon Hand, Paul Hoffman, Don KJvoll and young Beech Fox. For Kiwanis the line-up included Rev. Bill Reasner, Steve Frame, Tom Poponak, Gregg Arnold, Billy Hand and Kevin Sherman. Upcoming in the future is a game with the Middle Twp., Police Dept, to be played as a benefit game for the Kiwanis Scholarship fund
