THE BOOK rORXER l.

By Leslie Steyson vj

Suspense writers delight in tales of assassination plots. Some write them more expertly than others. Mr. Archer has written one which keeps the reader glued

to the pages.

Teddy Kennedy has been elected and sworn in as President. A wounded Greek immigrant has been found . and from his hospital bed insists upon speaking to the head of the F.B.I One of the high F.B.I. officials and his aide interview the man, who is apprehensive as he entered the country illegally. In his job as a waiter, he has heard a plan to assassinate the President, and one of the group was called "Senator". When the Greek was found dead in his bed shortly after the interview, and the interviewer had a fatal automobjle accident the same night, the F.B.I. took the assassination

threat serious.

Special Agent Marc Andrews, who had been in the case from the beginning, was assigned to investigate. Little by little, he began piecing the clues together. They finally found out when the attack was to take place - on the day the President had . an important meeting with the Congress. As the time grew closer, they kept debating whether to tell the President. The F.B.I. hoped not to postpone the meeting, as it would let those who were in the plot know that their plan had been discovered, and they would try again. Marc has fallen in love with the daughter of one of the Senators whose name is on the list of suspects, which bothered his

superiors.

The book is fast paced, and has an exciting conclusion.
