The Kiwanis Bulldogs, having eaten up teams like the Press, Fire Co., and Dennisville, attempted to take a step out 1 of its class and took on the strong Whitesboro Recreation Center team under the leadership of Joe Francis Hornets Down Saint Ann With Mulligan's Collegians unable to keep a date with St. Ann's Stars of Wildwood on Sunday. Bill Sherman took a team from Court House, promptly named the Hornets, down to Wildwood and won a thriller 68-66 on Tom Popnak’s last second basket in a well-played game. The lead see sawed back and forth until the very end. Leading all scorers was Gary Cripps of St. Ann’s with 24 pts. Radomile with 18 and DiPeso with 14 aided the churche’s cause. and had its ears pinned back to the tune of a 68-48 defeat. The game was close for three quarters with the lead see sawing back and forth, Whitesboro 18-16 at the quarter, 32-30 at the half and 48-40 at the 3rd quarter. But then the Whitesboro team with a strong reserve unit, forged ahead and took control of the game, dominating the 4th quarter 20-8. Whitesboro was bolstered by the addition of "Jay Bird" Watkins and Lee English of the Middle varsity, while Kiwanis lacked Danny Daniels premere rebounder and Tom Poponak. top scorer from their line-up. Playing with 6 men. the inexperienced Kiwanians could not match the manpower of Whitesboro who even used Paul Thompson, star volleyball player of the Optimists, in their List period deluge, which swamped the tired-out Kiwanians. The Collegians of Billy Mulligans "Inn" in the Villas will now take on the strong Whitesboro Aggregation, in an attempt to find out the strongest team in the local area. High scorers in the game were: Duncan Williams 18. Watkins 16. English 16. Tehune 8, For Whitesboro. Mitch Hand 16. Kevin Sherman 16, Dave May 10. for Kiwanis.
