Mrs. Cunningham Announces Candidacy For Avalon Council
Jane Ann Cunningham has announced her candidacy for councilman in the upcoming elections in Avalon. Mrs. Cunningham said, "I am running because I believe members of the community should be involved in their local government. My primary concern is making and keeping Avalon a desirable place to live and work.” Mrs. Cunningham is a Registered Nurse, a graduate of Temple University Hospital School of Nursing. She has also attended Temple University and the University of Pennsylvania. She has served terms as president, vicepresident and treasurer of the Temple University Hospital Nurses Alumnae. She was a Girl Scout leader for 12 years ana served in various positions on the Main Line Girl Scout Auxiliary Penny Party Apr. 6 The Ladies Auxiliary of the Avalon Volunteer Fire Dept, will hold their Annual Penny Party on Friday night, April 6, at 7:30 p.m. at the Avalon Community Hall, 30th Street and the Beach. Admission is 25 cents and refreshments will be available. Any donations of used (but not abused) household items, toys, records, books, or jewen-y would be appreciated\ Call 967-4045 for pick-up, or you can bring them to Community Hall on April 6th at 10 a.m. Van Dusen Meeting The Van Dusen Men’s & Women’s Club of Cape May County will hold its regular meeting on April 17 at 8 p.m. in the basement of the social hall of the old St. Raymond’s Church. E. Hudson Ave. in the Villas. Members feel free to bring family and guests. The guest speaker will be Mr. Phil Sheridan. A social will follow the meeting.

Since moving full time to Avalon eight years ago, Mrs. Cunningham has been active id the Avalon
Chamber of Commerce, of which she is now a trustee. Ten years ago she opened the Paper Peddler, a paperback book store in Avalon, which she and family members have operated since. Until recently, she was editor and publisher of the CAPE MAY COUNTY HERALD. She was co-author, with George Boyer of Wildwood, of CAPE MAY COUNTY STORY, a history of the county and its towns. She has received awards from the local Heart Association and the South Jersey Lung Association for articles she has written. Mrs. Cunningham is the wife of Dr. John D. Cunningham, an otolaryngologist and has four grown children.
Pauline Petrica Is Candidate
Pauline Petrica, candidate for council-person at large in the forthcoming Municipal election, has been a long lime summer resident of Avalon and has resided here permanently for the past ten years. Mrs. Petrica attended Philadelphia General School of Nursing and the University of Missouri at St. Louis and has had over 15 years of business experience. She was formerly employed by the U.S. Government in the Department of the Army, Division of Personnel: by RCA as executive secretary; and by a Philadelphia law firm as a legal secretary. For the past 5 years, Mrs. Petrica has been associated with her husband in the financial management of Steve's Avalon Gulf, Inc. Since 1970, she has been involved in many community activities, has worked on various Borough projects and is a member of several local organizations. Mrs. Petrica is an active member of the Avalon Women’s Republican Club, serving as its vice,president and president for four years, thus giving her an opportunity to work in unison with county officials on numerous campaigns.
She is an active member of the Avalon Recreation Committee and for the past five years has volunteered her services in this capacity. Mrs. Petrica is also a member of the Avalon Zoning Board of Adjustment, which over the past two years has provided her with a background in quasijudicial procedures. Her family includes husband Stephen and five daughters: Deborah, Donna, Doreen, Tina, and Lias, (also newborn grandson Stephen). 5 Point Mtg. on April 19 The monthly luncheon meeting of the Five Point Club of Avalon will be held at Tuckahoe Inn on April 19 at noon. Husbands are invited! SH Bridge Club Scores Results of the Stone Harbor Duplicate Bridge Club Tournament on March 28th were: Overall: First, Lois Kilbourne and Laurel Mowbray; Second, Vivian Cameron and Helen Bird; Third, Bill Coan and Bill Kephart; Fourth. Mary Frances Englebert and Esther Stobbart.
