MAUREEN KENNELLY, a sophomore from Cape May, recently helped Stockton’s Swim Team to break the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 2:02.1. Cape Gymnasts Compete in Jr. Olyptpics
The Flyin’ B’s gymnastic team of Cape May Court House competed in the AAU Jr. Olympics — MidAtlantic Meet in Wilmington, Delaware last month. It was quite an exciting day for the team, whose one member, Jackie Gentilini, of Woodbine, came home with (2) gold and (2) silver medals. Jackie took 2nd place on floor exercise and balance beam and 1st place on vault and 1st place all-around, this being quite an honor because there were eighty gymnasts in the 10-11 age group from a four state area. New Jersey, Penna., Del., & Maryland. Although the other Flyin' B’s didn’t bring home any medals, they all did quite well, an'* brought honor & pride to their school. The other team members were Kris Moulder and Missy Whittington. In the afternoon the 6-9 age group participated, with a bronze medal
brought home by Christin Dodd, of Avalon, on the floor exercise, which was beautifully performed. The other participants in this age group also did an outstanding job. They were Nicole Reichard, Bobby Jo Sikora, Patti Austin and Kim Osmundsen. The Flyin’ B’s are from Jerry’s Prof. School of Gymnastics, of Cape May Court House with head coach. Jerry Barber assisted by Phyllis Dodd & Debbie Schalek.
Have you seen the new spring sports schedule for Middle Township High School? Those yellow printed cards? Well, whoever designed them ought to hang his head in shame. Its like the blue print for a Chinese Fire Drill. The Old Sport wanted to line up the sports events coming up so he could give equal complete coverage to all sports. Major and minor, male and female and lo and behold, it was trying to do a jigsaw puzzle to follow the schedule. Of course, when the Old Sport went to school (back in the Gay Nineties), we had to think a little for ourselves, we didn’t have these magic pocket calculators and computers to think for us. And we learned how to think through on a process. So now we have a spring sports schedule that needs an interpreter with each one. And that’s progress!! ++ + With the advent of warmer weather, soft ball has blossomed in Middle Township and perhaps all over Cape May County. All available softball Fields were in use Sunday. The Cape May Softball league had practice games going everywhere. Jamesway was playing Murphy’s at the County Park and the Boyd Street Complexlooked like the Dodgers spring training camp at Vero Beach, Fla. with a game going on the field and players warming up everywhere. With a game in progress at 3:00 pm., Kiwanis had to retreat to the softball diamond at Memorial Field, where they were popping the ball over the short fences.

With a veteran team returning, Kiwanis looks to be a power* In local softball circles. It is hoped that the recreation department will organize a league in softball, like they did in volleyball this winter. Jamesway, Murphy’s Acme, and the Sheriff’s Dept, all have teams. All that is needed is playing fields. Too bad the County can’t fix up a couple more fields In the County Park. . +++ Among these showing up for Kiwanis practice were the indefatigable Dave May, Joey Trombetta, Steve Frame, Ted Croiter, Billy Adams, Don Rhinesmith, Gil Sinkway, Walt Turnler, Donny Rhinesmith. The coach will have to find a new pitcher this season as old reliable "Rev.” Reasner will be leaving in June for greener pastures. Billy Adams could fill the bill but after Memorial Day, he gets deeply involved in stock car racing, which occupies Van Dusen GOP Club The next meeting of Van Dusen Men’s and Women’s Republican Club, 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 17 at old St. Raymond’s Church, E. his Sundays. Maybe Gil Sinkway will have to settle down, put away his pipe, and concentrate on pitching. And "Dandy Don” Rhine*rHith can be counted on in a pinch. Que Sera, Serai ++ +
PAGE IS With the Panthers traveling to Buena to open the baseball season, and cold weather interfering at home, the Old Sport has to rely on Chuck Dougherty for information on the baseball and with Chuck everything is "off the record”. But on the record is an B-2 loss to Buena, which is regarded as one of the strongest teams in the league. Evidently the batting cage, the pitching machine and all that indoor practice didn’t produce any hitters for Chuck, as they only came up with 3 hits and 2 runs in the game.
