*1,000 DONATION BRINGS SMILES A *1,000 check to assist in equioping the playroom in the new Pediatrics Department in Burdette Tomlin Memorial Hospital, Cape May Court House, was recently received by Merrill Thomas, left, of the Hospital's Contributions Committee. Giving the check Is Mrs. Harry Hudson, chairperson of the Wildwood Civic Club, Evening Membership Department. Looking on from left is Mrs. Bernard Gebhardt, chairperson of the Civic Improvement Program, Mrs. R. Billctt, R.N. Head Nurse, and Mrs. Elizabeth Heywood. The presentation took place in the Pediatrics Department. The department will be expanded through the door behind the group. It is part of the construction program presently taking place in the local hospital.
Dune Grass Planters Wanted in Avalon
Avalon — The date has been set and Mrs. Yvonne Ballenger is urging as many Avalon residents as possible to come out on Saturday April 21st at 9 a m. to helpplant SOOOdune grass stollen. The elementary school children will be planting on April 25th from 12:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Adult supervision is needed to guide and instruct them. "Grass plantings over the years’ have been very successful, but must be repeated each year to keep the dunes shored up against the ocean. The Environmental Commission feels that the homeowners in the Borough of Avalon should realize the seriousness of this work and volunteer to come out on Saturday, April 21st to help plant" commented Mrs.
Ballenger.

Mayor Ellsworth Armacost said. "We are propd of the work done by The Avalon Environmental Commission and are pleased to supply the dune grass in order to protect the natural beauty of our
dunes".
Anyone interested in volunteering to help with the Saturday planting, please call Mrs. Y.S. Ballenger at 609-967-8200 or 967-7485. Rain dates for the school planting in April 26th and for the Saturday Planting is April 28th.
Local Youth Compete in Red Cross Test
Ten youth from the Middle Township area will be competing in the third annual American Red Cross Youth First Aid Competition to be held April 7 at Ursinus College, Collegeville, Pennsylvania. The youth, aged 13-19, will br among over 250 youth in over 60 teams from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and New York who will be competing in the day-long
competition.
The competition, organized by the Red Cross Mid-Atlantic Division, will test the youth’s knowledge of standard and advanced first aid techniques as taught by the American Red Cross Safety Services. Last year, over 1.6 million Americans attended Red Cross first aid courses
nationally.
