Thomas J. White Is Candidate for Mayor
Thomas J White. Sr is among Avalon candidates running for the office of Mayor. A former vice Sommers Runs For Council Otho L. Sommers, who first came to Avalon in 1947 and became a permanent resident in 1975. announced his candidacy for Councilman in the May 8th
election.
Both Mr. Jind Mrs. Sommers say tnat they are grateful they riiade the decision to retire in Avalon. Mr. Sommers' says his desire is to serve the Borough and its people, and that he believes a good citizen should take an active roll in community
affairs.
Mr. Sommers attended the University of Vermont
president of E.J. Lavino Co. Division of International Minerals Corp.. he supervised operations and production of seven plants, and was a design consultant for construction of a chemical plant in Holland. He served as Commissioner and Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of Whitemarsh Twp. Montgomery. Co.. Pa . for 14 years and was appointed to Air Pollution Commission of Pa . in which he served seven years, receiving an Award of Merit He presently serves on the Avalon Knvirnnmental Com-

In 1945 he was employed by the Reliance Insurance Company of Philadelphia and prior to resigning in 1947 was Company representative in the western states of Montana. Idaho. Utah and Nevada. He joined the International Employee Benefit and Reinsurance corporation of Towers. Perrin. Forster & Crosby. Inc. (New York and Philadelphia) in 1947 and became vice president, senior partner and director of the Pennsylvania Reinsurance Company. He
retired in 1975.
