ToobadtheApri! weather hasn't been more conductive to baseball playing. Of the three games Chuck Doughertys Panthers have played, winning two of the three. The Old Sport has shivered at Memorial Field while the cold winds blew across the diamond. But it didn't dampen the spirit of the Panther ball team.
cleaner. He is OK in my book. With Danny Fowler on 2nd. Jim Pickering at short and Bob Migliore recovered from an auto accident injury (holding down the hot comer), the infield looks adequate.

school team I have ever seen and when they go through their pre-game drills under the leadership of omnipresent Clutch Hitter Dougherty, they look like a major league aggregation. And in the second game against a strong Buena team, they proved they could hit by piling up 9 runs on 12 hits. Meanwhile the "Chiickaroo" came up with a big surprise in pitcher Dale Gerhard. We had been led to believe that John Collins would be leading us out of the wilderness and he did manage to outlast a surprisingly strong Wildwood Catholic team But Dale Gerhard showed flashes of brilliance in shutting out a strong Buena team 9-0 on 3 hits and only one walk. Now if Chuck could come up with a southpaw, he - would have a creditable pitching staff We hear that Phil Abate pitched a good game for the JVS and Neal Chase can throw hard when he gets a
chance
Middle has a stylish 1st baseman in Dave Tanner who throws left handed and covers the 1st base side of the infield like a vacuum-

use and it's too bad the county can't build a couple of more fields at the County Park. They are badly
needed.
The Kiwanis team will be playing practice games with Palmer Chevrolet (formerly Shell-Rob Motors) at Boyd St. field on Tuesday and Doc's Custard on Friday. Gene Sanders is the manager of Palmer Chevrolet, who play in the county softball league. Frank Dougherty manages the Doc's Custard team, which usually plays fast pitch softball in the Sea Isle City League, hut has agreed to play slo-pitch against the local Kiwanians. Kiwanis will also be going up to the County Correctional Institute to play against the inmates on Sunday Last year the "Phillies" as they like to call themselves, had a strong team, with some hitters who could park the ball over the fence. They should be gone by now! Kiwanis will have to find a new pitcher this season as Bill "The Rev" Reasner will be moving on to Pitman in June. He will be missed not only by his softball and basketball playing friends in Kiwanis but also by all the good people of Court House Good luck. Bill. Bill Sherman will be missing the services of George Reasner. who has been the official scorer for both his Kiwanis basketball team and Billy Mulligan's Collegians. He keeps the official Score book and also operajts the electric scoreboard when it is
available. It will be hard to find a replacement for "Genial George" Reasner. In basketball the Coast Guard has entered a team in the Cumberland County Tournament to be held on April 21, 22, and 23, and they should do well. They'll have a few of the Bears on their team and gunners like Chuck Pope, and Charlie Davis. All they need is a good big man and they may get him in Mike Couront, who plays for Billy . Mulligan's Collegians. In a series with the Collegians, the Coast Guard has never been able to beat them, but when the Collegians took on the Bears in a scrimmage last fqll. they were wiped out. when they attempted to run ' with them. In their series with St Ann's Stars of Wildwood, after losing the 1st game by one point, the Collegians have not lost again. The Collegians field a team of coaches, in Mike Couront. Greg Tracy and Joe Bimbo of Wildwood and Denny Anderson and Chick Ludman of Middle on the squad. It's too bad they couldn't get games in Atlantic City. Millville. Vineland and Bridgeton They would have given a good account of themselves. The attempt to play a basketball game for the Kiwanis Scholarship Fund between the Middle Twp Police Dept, with Ricky Harmon and the Kiwanis with Rewi Thompson, has had to be abandoned because of the unavailability of Ricky Harmon. He is in the midst ^f exams now and can't get home for this weekend. So now Herald Sports Editor Bill Sherman, also of Kiwanis, is trying to gel the Phila. Eagles Softball team down here in May for a Week-end game with the Kiwanis softball team. Last year the Eagles played in Stohe Harbor for the Lions Club.
