Kiwanis Softball

Playing with some new faces but with the same intensity they showed last year, the County Phillies (the inmates of the County Correctional Institute) managed to solit a double header with 'the visiting Kiwanians of \ the Court House. In two well-played games the scores were 4-0 and 0-4. With the wind blowing in, there were no home runs hit over the short but high leftfield fence and both games were pitcher's battle. Bill. The Rev" Reasncr was especially effective in the second game, holding the hard hitting Phillies to four hits and getting some great support from his . teammates in the field; especially from the Bobbsey twins, Dave May in left and Joey Trombetta in center, with Joey making putouLs. The Kiwanis infield was bolstered by the addition of Billy Adams at short, Gary Middle Township Softball Under the tutelage of Coach Art Tuel, the Pantherettes have won their first three games, having defeated Buena 11-9. Wildwood Catholic ' 16-5, and Buena 20-5. The leading batters are: 1. Sue McKinley .545 ; 2. Ann Callahan .461, and 3. Laurie Budd .427. In pitching, Patti Fuentes, exchange student from El Salvador, has won three games and lost none. The team is composed of the following players: P PatU Fuentes (3-0); CGaie Allax; IB Sue McKinley; 2B Tina Petrica; 3B Laurie Budd; SS Amy Brockman; LF Chris Salversen; CF Ann Callahan; RF Patty Houlroyd. The next game will be played away Friday against Hammonton.

McMichael at third and Ted Johnson at first. Donny Rhinesmith regular catcher had to fill in at second and did a great job in the field, although going hitless at the plate. George Reasner, regular scorer was drafted to play short field, when as usual, some Kiwanians failed to show up and had a hitand a sensational catch of a fly ball in the second game. Unfortunately he runs the bases like his old man and at times it appeared that the wind was holding him back. The Phillies had to loan two players to the Kiwanis so that they could field a full team and then furnish a third after a Kiwanis injury. Dr. Ted Johnson pulled a muscle legging out an infield hit and had to leave the game. He fears it will ehd his softball career and he'll go back to that Hornets Basketball The Court House Hornets suffered heartbreaking defeat at the hands of the St. Ann’s Stars of Wildwood Sunday. Leading for three quarters, the Hornets expected to coast in for the wip but St. Ann s outscored them 24-20 in the last quarter to win by a score of 72-70. Gary Cripps of St. Ann’s led all the scorers with a total of 34 points. Andy Cripps had 12 and R. Haigh, 10 for St. Ann's For Kiwanis, Mitch Hand was high man with 24 points, while DiPeso (on loan from St. Ann's) had 16. Ralph Johnson scored 14 and Billy Hand. 10. Gary Barber had six to round out the visiting team. Steve Budd was absent because of a bad cold and Kevin Sherman got lost on the way. The Hornets will return for another Session Sunday, augmented by the presence of Rewi Thompson who was away on vacation.

soft job in the Superterident of Schools office. Maybe Kiwanis will have to pick up Tony Ferrante as his replacement. Tony has a great sports background. In the first game Phillies had four runs on six hits with Kiwanis getting three hits and no runs. In the second game Kiwanis had four runs on seven hits, and the Phillies four hits and no runs. The Kiwanis expect to play several games with the’Phillies this season, all at their field, of course.
