number of these plastic drifters will be released in Delaware Bay. Each one is a colored, saucer-shaped disk with a stem about a loot and a half long The drifters are being released in connection with a study of the movements of young

blue crabs

The longterm circulation of water at the mouth of tin? bay is roughly off-shore near the surface and onshore near the bottom; it'is thought that the young crabs may be moved in and out of the bay on these currents. The purpose of the drifters is to help get a more detailed picture ol the currents at the bay mouth With a weight on the liottom ol the stem, the drifters floats along the iNittorn. without a weight, it Unfits at the surface. On the disk is a serial number and message with our address fhnd telephone numbers We record the number.,date, and location when we release the drif ter What we wed is the same information when it is found so that we can determine a speed and direction of movement We offer a $1 no REWARD for Ibis information. You can send a card to the address, which is also given below, or in the Ijcwcs Delaware, area you can call the University of Delaware Marine laboratory at :W2-645-4000 In the Cape May.
