12 Years: Dear Editor: A popular question at this time asks. "Is twelve years enough?" Personally. I say yes. and my answer reflects sentiments of many residents. I would like to review here those 12 years our Mayor has served, many of which were part time, but time and space do not permit. Recent issues, though, need consideration. The winters of 1977-1978 and 1978-1979 have been the most severe experienced here. Emergency situations developed requiring immediate leadership and our leader was absent. I would be unfair to be critical of our chief' executive for his absence, caused by a period of relaxation to which he is entitled. However. I am critical of the timing. Recent local history indicates that those periods he has been absent have been the most critical of the year. Emergency situations require immediacy and it was fortunate there were those of us at home who had to pick up the initiative. Unsolicited comments indicate we did a good job. The recent parking meter fiasco not only stigmatized our entire community, it proved to be a costly mistake. Here, again, timing was a factor, and our Mayor was part of that mistake and its poor timing. The removal of the building at 30th and Dune to make way for an expensive building (which we can really do without) eliminated its use for other community purposes among which could have been a housing for our new Rescue Squad Housing has been one of the Squad's primary problems. Issues need to be disucssed and positions on those issues need to stated. Therefore, the preceding comments. Other issues should be addressed, too.

Enough! and the issues don't need developing; they exist. Waterway maintenance, group rentals, fiscal problems. funding, physical improvement of our community, strong and • sensible codes, resident involvement, are among the many items each of us discusses over the family table. My stand on issues. I’m sure, will align in thinking with all the fine people in Avalon. A^in. twelve years is enough. I solicit the help of Avalon voters in introducing a new and fresh approach to the administering of our Borough. Sincerely. Owen Quinn. Commisioner Candidate for Mayor of Ava|pn GOP , Women Honored TRENTON - Several area GOP women were recently recognized by members of the N.J. Wants Recall of Catanoso

To the Editor: After attending “Amateur nite" at the County Court House on Thursday. April 19. and observing the explanations given by the County M.U. A. and their staff regarding the questionable, policitically motivated appointments of Freeholder Director Anthony Catanoso’s cronies to positions with the M.U.A. several things must be brought to the publics

attention.

4 The obvious . inal-* tention of the members of the M.U.A. to their duties and responsibilities. 2 The absence of any quest ions or comment from Director 'Catanoso to the M.U. A. and the public. 3. The continued presence of Philip Matalucci attempting by his presence to dominate the Board of Freeholders and intimidate the public. 4. The obvious attempt by Freeholder Thornton to soft pedal and justify the appointments of the unneeded inspectors by the County M.U.A. Does this action by Freeholder Thornton give credence to the rumor that he 'is interested in the

appointment to the position of Deputy Director of the M.U.A . another unneeded and useless postion? Attendance at Freeholder meetings is an experience that all citizens of Cape May County should have. Only thru public dutcry and interest can the actions of the M.U.A. be brought into line and the cost of sewage treatment in Cape May County be

contained.

In closing I was amused by Freeholder Catanoso’s press conference when he stated in a local paper that Halbruner was mad because he did not receive the position of Manager of the County Economic Development Commission about nine years ago. But during the campaign of 1977 only two years ago he stated ‘Tve never met the man. (Halbruner) I wouldn't know him if I fell

over torn.

The actions of Freeholder Catanoso in the last year, his blatent contempt of public opinion, his poor attendance at Freeholder meetings, his holding dual office. < Mayor of. North Wildwood and Freeholder Director.) his domination of the County

M.U.A. and resulting ground swells and clamor from the public, give me no choice: I must proceed with a petition asking for his recall at the general • election this November. F.L. Halbruner Cape May
