THE ELEGANCE OF DANCING BY THE OCEAN .Over 300 Avalon residents took part in the annual Spring Fling, held May 12 at the Community Hall. Musical renditions were played by the Cliff Kollmeier Orchestra who got the couples onto the dance floor with a variety of tunes. The dance, which was under the auspices of the Avalon Recreation Department, Jack Sykes director, will be the last Af its kind until the fall. Many residents appreciate the ballroom style of dancing which has always been synonymous with the seashore living, in the springtime.
Avalon Police April Report
AVALON — Avalon’s Finest have again averaged handling over 45 incidents per day during the month
of April.
According to the April Avalon police report, 1,380 incidents were handled and services rendered by the department, including 48 bank checks, 875 business checks, 104 residential checks and 204 minor incidents handled. During April Avalon police made 12 sick assists with ambulance and police car; answered one fire with the Avalon Fire Department and responded to a total of 23

There were four motor vechicle accidents in the Borough with no arrests for drunken driving. Fifteen motor vehicle summons were issued, there were two non-drug related arrests and 27 incidents of damage to property. No juveniles were handled within the department, and there were no parking violations in April. In the 30 days of the month, police traveled a tptal of 10,038 miles, consumed 961 gallons of unleaded gasoline and consumed a

single gallon of regular gasoline, and 17 quarts of oil. There were a total of 17 arrest made by the department during the month, 15 of these were traffic arrests!T The police made 65 motor vehicle checks during April. Police Chief Joseph E. Foley reminds all motorists that Avalon police will begin enforcing new spevd limit regulations set forth in the State’s Motor Vehicle Code. The new speed limit in the Borough is 25 miles
per hour. ’Commissioner Dj^en P. Quinn, .the director of Public Safety and myself ask for the public’s input concerning the new traffic regulation. Warnings will be issued to motorists until the new speed limits are well ingrained in the minds of local motorists’, Foley said. ‘My officers will as always be enforcing this new speed limit without discrimination as we are mandated to do by this state statute’, Foley concluded.
Crest Museum Hours Told

COURT HOUSE - It was disclosed this week that the recently fired executive director of the Gape May County Municipal Utilities Authority. Walter Taft, was presented with written reasons for his dismissal. John Vinci, chairman of the MUA. stated in a news release that Mr. Taft was given the^ reasons in a written ndfice for his firing. "In an agreementwith Mr. Taft, we agreed not to disclose the reasons for his dismissal." Vinci added. The MUA chairman further announced that the ousted executive director was given five options concerning the MUA’s actions and a deadline for him to respond before his services were terminated. "Mr. Taft failed to respond in the time afforded him.”
