CAPE MAY - Jeffrey and Charlene La Cava were graduated May 4 from the Coast Guard TYaining Center in Cape May. The [4 Cavas entered the Coast Guard March 12, approximately two months after” their marriage. Jeffrey is the son of Edward and Trudy La Cava of Jacksoh, N.J. Charlene is the daughter of Roy and Esther Gaugler of
Emmaus, Pa.
Married couples in he Armed Forces are no longer uncommon*, but for a couple to go through boot camp together is unusual. A spokesman at the Training Center stated that, to the best of his knowledge, this was a first for the Cape May Training
Center.
The nine-week boot camp is a strenuous period for the recruits both physically and mentally. A large portion of the training is directed at testing the individual’s ability to withstand stress. For the married couple there were additional stresses which other

recruits did not have to deal with. Jeffrey stated that he was sometimes bothered when he saw his company commander drilling his wife. She was quick to add that they were not singled out any more ‘ than the other recruits, except in good
humor.
Their company commander, First Class Petty Officer W.L. Tucker, emphasized that he treated them no differently than the other recruits in his company. He went on to say that they posed no problems to training nor to his approach to training
his company.
The company the U Cavas were graduated with once won the distinction of Honor Company. This award goes to the training company that scores highest , in a given week, in the areas of academics, athletics, military drill, personnel and barracks inspections. Mrs. La Cava also received the personal distinction of being assigned to the Regimental Staff while in training. The La Cavas will be assigned to duty with the Public Works Division of the Cape May Training Center. They will receive on-thD-job training, while they await an opening in the Machinery Technicians School, located at tnte
Funding Wanted
MILLVILLE Assemblyman . James R. Hurley (R.. Cumberland•Cape May) wants the federal government to pick up the check for all programs or additions fo present programs adopted on and after January 1.

In a Concurrent Resolution before the Legislature today. Hurley included executive orders or regulations which might be issued by the President. ‘Our municipalities are under ‘caps’ and every department in state and local government is being pressed to reduce costs even to the point of firing employees. Hurley said. ‘It is time the Federals funded all and not just part oftheir new programs or the extension or enlargement of existing levels of service.’
