The latahly rale lor pleasure boating accidents reached an all time low in 1978. according to the latest Coast Guard statistics. There were 9.4 boater deatte tor every 100.000 boats in 1978. compared to a fatality rate ot 9 «in 1977. the pievious lowest rate. However total deaths in boating accidents increased by nine last.year. In all. 1.321 boaters died in 1978. up from the 1.312 who died in boating mishaps in 1977. This increase may be partly attributable to the 450.000 more boats estimated to be on the waterways in 1978 than m 1977. Some 8,576 boats were MT High School Girls Track

In addition to the fatalities. 1.761 people were injured and $12.301.2^0 worth ol property damage resulted Horn these accidents.
