The test will consist of a Vmile swim (approximately 15 minutes) a half mile run and surf dash (approximately 3 minutes). All guards must pass a rowing test by July 1st but there will be training for that. Applications for lifeguard jobs must be obtained from Commissioner Quinn’s office in Borough Hall before taking the test and experienced or returning guards must contact the Commissioner before the first week in June. In the past. Avalon's Beach Patrol has won seven Tri-City titles, as well as winning The South Jersey Champoinships' twice. This competition enables the guards to maintain their excellent physical condition which helps them keep sharp during their hours on duty. "Safety for our residents and visitors to our beaches has been assured on Avalon's beaches due to the well qualified beach patrol selected through this tryout system", stated Quinn.
