Fishing Off to Good Start

HOUSE - Weakfbh and black drum in Delaware Bay, fluke in the inland waterways and sea bass and bluefish in the ocean are the targets for the fishing appetites for anglers fishing salt water

in Cape May County. Anglers are enjoying an

excellent run of weakfish (sea trout) in Delaware Bay, with fish averaging between five and 15 pounds. Bucktails with

trailing plastic worms, strip mackerel or squid baits are producing the best results. Tony Note, of Wilmington, Del. boated a 14 lb. 0 a. weakfish while fishing Delaware Bay aboard Skipper Homer Pratt’s charter boat Ursula. A 14 lb. 9 <a. weakfish was boated by Jeff Hard on, of Longport, N.J. on a bucktail lure while he was fishing in Delaware Bay. Some big weakfish are also being caught on

In the black drum division of the 44th annual Cape May County Fishing Tournament a 92 lb. fish boated by Victor Cruz, of Woodbine, is one of the tbp entries. Robert Varatis, Jr., of Norristown, Pa., has reflistered an 85 lb. black dnhn and Ross Norbury, of Green Creek, has entered an 814 lb. black drum. Boats are producing good numbers of black drum at r the Pin Top Buoy, 14 FT. Light, Brarntywine Shoal and Bug Light on clam

In the past week, fluke have made their appearance in the inland waterways and in Delaware Bay. Some fluke are also being reported in the inland waterways from anglers fishing from rental boats out of the area's boat rental liveries. Croakers have also made their appearance, with first reports coming from the back bay waters. Bluefish action in the ocean has been limited with most of the activity concentrated in Delaware Bay However, large bluefish are showing up in the catches recorded on bottom fishing boats. Some blues are also taking bucktail baits in Delaware

Bay.

Party and charter boats are reporting good catches of sea bass and ling most days with a few fluke and bluefish showing in the catches.
