CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE — The Cape May County Board of Chosen Freeholders has taken official action condemning proposals to license salt water recreational anglers at either the state or federal levels. The board unanimously approved a resolution opposing the license which calls on the Governor of New Jersey to take a leadership role in opposing the license. The resolution asks the Governor to alert the state's Congressional delegation to the license threat and requested they oppose any such plans at the Federal level. A resolution similar to that passed by the Board of Freeholders was also passed by the Commissioners in Sea Isle City. Both resolutions condemn the license proposal because it would have a detrimental effect on the tourism business; because it taxes just one segment of the users of the salt water marine T resources to finance programs which whould benefit a lot of user groups which would not be taxed; and would require licensing, inspection of catches, filling out license applications and harrassment of anglers seeking to enjoy a recreational day on the water. These things would be detrimental to the point where it would stop a certain segment of the recreational anglers from fishing, with a resultant loss in tourism dollars into the economy. W. Scott ^cGonigle. president of the Jersey Cape Sportsmen's Association, which has taken a leadership role in the movement to head off a license for salt water anglers commended both governing bodies for their efforts on befalf of the recreational fishermen. He urged sportsmen to support simular resolutions in their home counties and towns to broaden the effort to prevent the passage of legislation at either the state or federal levels. Copies of the resolution can be obtained from the
