Purists will probably find fault with Bob Dylan's arrangements on 'At Budokan" (Columbia), but. personally. I find this to be Dylan’s most rewarding album inyears. Over the course of four sides he performs his best known works, but often, the tunes take on a completely different perspective than the origional versions. For instance, the one basic, folky “Don't Think Twice It s Alrigljt” is now transformed into reggae, and then there's the influences of soul, blues, and ja7.z which crop u0. By doing this. Bob Dylan has given new life to his older pieces, and, consequently his vocals are fresh and full of enthusiasm. This won’t please everyone, but those who listen to it objectively will discover some won derful moments. New York’s most misunderstood group. The Kamnnes, have continued to enlarge their fanatical cult following, yet haven't cracked the big time, yet They've just finished their first movie. “Hock and Roll High School," and its soundtrack is now available on Sire Records. The songs included in the film sport a strong influence of sixties rock, as everything is simple, straight-forward and rocking, with infectious melodies-- and the title track, especially, should find a home on the charts, as it's a modern day teen anthem. Besides The Romones. “Rock and Roll High School" features the music of Brownsville Station, The Paley Brothers. Chuck Berry.

Alice Cooper, uevo, Brian Eno. and Nick Lowe. Maybe now people will realize The Romones aren't obnoxious punks, but. instead, true rock and rollers who want everyone to have a good time. Blues fans have a lot to cheer about with Muddy Water's "Live" (Blue Sky)). His band drives hard, and Muddy is in fine voice. Like his last couple of efforts. "Live" was produced by Johnrfy. Winter, who obviously* understands Muddy's music, as he keeps the backing pure and raw. Hopefully, the team of Muddy Waters and Johnny Winter will continue for quite a few more years. No one was more stay prised that I was with The Patti Smith Group reaching the top-ten last summer with “Because The # Night." It was a classic track, and now the group has issued its follow up album, "Waves" (Artisla), which clearly shows the group is , progressing at a rapid pace. Forget liow solid The Patti Smith Group's previous three albb'i'i were, "Waves" surpasses them. The sound is awesome with layers of guitars boosting Patti's powerful vocals, and the songwriting is consistantly sharrf and to the pointunlike a few of their earlier, more meandering moments. Maybe The Patti Smith Group won’t find a charted single this time out. but "Waves" is sure to be the staple of many FM rock stations. It's a thrill to hear music as. potent and rocking as this.
