Indians Present Festival MEDFORD - T)ie Powhatan Indians will present a unique assortment of 19th century American Indian Artifacts, many of them rare, June 16 - 17 from 10a.m. -7 p.m. at the Native American Cultural Center in Medford. The exhibit, never before shown to the public, is part of the tribe's weekend-long Green Cornf’estival held to commemorate the spring planting. Outdoor activities also will be featured and a 30-feet high tepee designed to convey Powhatan symbology will stand on the Center's front lawn facing Route 70 through Sunday night. Inside the Center's "Our Indian Heritage Museum", the exhibit will include a wide array of authentic bows, arrow, and warclubs. a rare Northwest Coast totem pole; medicine man headdressess; a Sioux ceremonial dress containing 20 pounds of beads; and many other items of original Plains Indians bead work. A collection of original Hopi Kachina dolls also will be featured in the display of workmanship ‘from various areas of America, as will a wide sampling of pottery, silverwork, baskets, musical ‘nstruAients and other crafts. To make way for this special exhibit, the museum will be cleared of its permanent collection and extra display areas also will be added. Further outdoor activities include demonstrations of Navajo dancing. contemporary Indian arts and crafts displays, and refreyiments, including Indian fry bread and sassafras iced tea. Admission is free. The Center is located on Route 70. four miles east of the Route 73 intersection ‘Marlton Circle) and one mile west of the Medford Circle.
