Sea Isle Skimmer Weekend

SEA ISLE - Sea Isle City's 13th annual Skim mer Weekend will be held Friday. Saturday and Sunday. June 22-23-24, as the resort officially launches the summer season The fun-filled weekend includes events for all ages Skimmer Weekend was originally held as part of the dedication of the then one-mile long Promenade, which was constructed atop a double rock and timber bulkhead to protect a <\ide area- devastated during the March 1962 storm* Declared a disaster area by th^ state and federal governments. Sea City had retreated in some areas as much as a block from the onslaught of the ■ocean. A vast area laid in waste and a redevelopment agency wasxreated to help rebuild the city With the investment of only a little more than 150.000 from the city, the various levels of government then embarked on a multi-million project which has been cit«l by many as the rebirth of the island Now. one apartment in the Spinnaker Condominium is worth as much as three times the city’s original' investment and there are more than 190 units plus Promenade shops and the Commodore Club Skimmer Weekend, therefore, mirks a time for Sea Isle City to celebrate and look forward' to even better times as the memories of ,1962 gradually fade. John Sweatlock, president of t£e Greater Sea Isle City tyamber of Commerce, and Mayor Dominic C. Raffa said tin chamber ana city will again co-spbnsor the festivities. A caterpillar would rather starve trt death than eat a plant it finds distasteful, according to Ranger Rick's Nature Magazine for children.
