STONE HARBOR - Signup and tryouts for the Stone Harbor Little League begin Friday, .June 29 and continue July 2,3.5 and 6 the next week, as well as every Mon. Wed., and Fri throughout the season. The tryouts will take place at the 81st St. field from 9 -11 a.m. All youngsters ages 813 are welcome no matter how long their, stay in the area. This will be the 17th consecutive year that the league has been sponsored by the Stone Harbor Lions Club, who prbvide the uniforms, quality equipment, and insurance coverage. The league is

organized and operated by the Stone Harbor Recreation Department. Wes McGuckin returns for this second year as league director, while Dave Moir replaces Rick Dewey, who has entered business after 12 years as a player, coach, and official. Both McGuckin and Moir, who is the recreation athletic supervisor, arc also former league players. Tryouts Will consist of having the youngsters display their batting, fielding, and throwing talents. The ability to protect oneself is fnpthfet important factor in rating

the players.

Four • teams will be formed, with the 11-13 year olds usually having the best chance of being selected. Since most 8-10 year olds cannot compete with 13 year olds, they meet in what has become known as the Nine O’clock Group three times a week. At this time they have the opportunity to work on the fundamentals, as well as play several practice g«imes each week. Regular season games will start Monday July 9 at 6 p.m. Teams play Monday and Friday evenings and Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 9:15. All games are played at the

CAPE MAY - The Cape May Crusaders remained •number one” in the southern division of the iounty Soccer league. They 'upped their record to 7 and 1 with conquests over the Tiderunners 4-2, the Bombers 2-1 and Ocean City 1-0. Scott Nash and Joe Glazers each booted a pair of goals to carry the offense versus the I^oJer Tiderunners Brian Kopp and Dan •Tangtiay garnered the scores against the Upper Township Bombers. The younger Cape May Hurricane played great defense as they drew with Lower Township No. 4 l-l and Hustlers 0-0 in Middle Division action.
