Freshwater Fishing Excellent
Fresh-water fishing in New Jersey is excellent this year. The state's lakes and streams are in exceptionally good shape this season, tfccording to the state Division of Fish, Game, and Shellfisheries. The warm spells earlier this spring raised water temperatures to the levels where fish feed actively, getting fishing off to a good start. The later cool spells and rains have maintained the favorable conditions. Trout angling in both lakes and streams is still going strong. The lakes and reservoirs are producing trophy-sized fish. The rivers and brooks are providing quality fishing.
Fishing for bass and panfish continues to be unusually good for a longer period of time than normally. , , , Pickerel, pike, and perch fishing, which usually slows down by this time of year, seems to be better than ever. The fishing for carp, both with hook and line and bow and arrow, continues to be very productive, with plenty of very large fish. Fishing for the less glamorous, but toothsome, catfish, bullheads, and eels is actually getting better everyday. In the upper Delaware Kiver the numerous shad are still showing and providing good action,
despite the usual tapering off at this time of the season. The big river has finally settled down to a good fishable state. Knowledgeable shad fishermen are doing very well. More m us kies than ever are being caught in the river and the Delaware and Karitan Canal. Both waters are also very good .for smallmouth bass and walleyes. For more information on fresh water fishing in New Jersey send a stamped, self-addressed, number ten envelope to the New Jersey Division of Fish, Game and Shellfisheries, P.Q. Box 1809.
