They say that a situation must get worse before It gets better, but how could this energy crisis get any worse? Motorists, with the hopes of finding an open gas station, must now contend with an odd-even rationing system prevalent throughout the Northeast Store and shop owners are forced to close early or lay off employees. The worst part of this gasoline issue has been its impact on the shore resorts. Unlike other affected areas, where businesses have 365 days to sell their wares, the shore resorts rely on only three months out of the year for sales. As one restaurant owner. Phil Phlllipps of the Rock ’n’ Chair stated. "Yes, I have noticed a sharp decline in customers within the past two weeks. I have had to cut back by laying off many employees and in other areas." Phillips attributes this decline solely to the gasoline shortage. The gasoline shortage hfliK not/ only affected restaurants and shop owners, bift/ real estate as well. According to the Arthritis Foundation. 97Mz of people over the age of 60 are affected by some form of arthritis. If Cape May County is typical, this means that there are 15,000 arthritis sufferers in the County. In other words, 29'2 of the county’s residents are 60 years of age and may be suffering. The Cape May County Health Department provides a diagnostic and consultative Arthritis Clinic. It is under the direction - of Edward Hoffman. M.D., Rheumatologist. ' Pinelands Commission Meeting TOMS RIVER - At It, next meeting on July-13, the Pinelands Planning Commission may consider the emergency adoption of interim standards for the review of applications to build in the Pinelands. The meeting will be held at the Holiday Inn on Rt. 37 in Toms River beginning at 9a.m. The Commission held three public meetings in the Pinelands area last mbnth to receive comment on draft standards proposed at its May 18 meeting. The Commission's subcommittee on standards has been studying testimony received at the hearings and preparing responses for the Commission’s review.
