getUftg thicker and thicker until we couldn't see more than two or three feet in front of us. So, the captains decided to'head straight East until we got inshore. After two hours we still had not reached shore, so both captains decided to use the depth finder to make sure we did not run aground. Finally we got to two feet of water and still could not see the shore, so we decided to anchor and wait until the fog lifted. By this time it was near 11 p.m. Tbat’s when I became acquainted with CB’s HELPING HAND and the

work they do.

The passengers from the FLEISHMAN. Richie Riefsnyder Sr. and son Richie Jr. owners of Smitty’s Bar and captain Dave Fletcher transfered to out boat THE BEAVER SQUEEZER, for company while waiting. Jim Monaghan tuned the CB radio to CHANNEL 20, and asked ADAM 12 and

Some time ago my friends and I boarded two fishing boats, THE BEAVER SQUEEZER and THE FLEISHMAN, for a nighti Drum trip. We headed for Fourteen Foot Bank. .After a short while Charlie Dilks landed his first Monaghan had to help him bring it in. Richie Reifsnyder Jr. then caught a five pound Weakfish. That was the end of the

fish.

By fcJO p.m. the fog was closing in on us so fast that captains Richie Redden and Dave Fletcher decided to head in. It was then discovered that The Fleishman could not move due to a lost propeller. The BEAVER SQUEEZER threw him a line and proceeded to tow it By this time the visibility was very poor and the Bay got pretty rough so the moving was very slow. We figured it would take up Ifc to2 hours to get in. The fog kept

TERMITE to put a land line in for us. We gave them our numbers and asked them to call our families and let them know that we were anchored and had to wait until the fog lifted before coming home, not to worry. This they did and came back to assure m that everyone was contacted. They told us together with MANHATA they would stay up and keep in touch with us until we reach the Canal. Finally the fog lifted enough for us to proceed to our Marina. We got hom^at 2:30 a.m. I assure you that no one can appreciate the feeling we had that someone was awake and ready to heto - - 7i

further. The next moring called them to again thank them. I have been a member of the helping

hand since.

Two' weeks ago, while listening to Parsons and Cardinal modulating, a call came in for a 1037. Immediately Parons took charge. He assured the caller that he would call the Cape May Coast Guard. Parsons later told me that he had trouble getting the Guard Due To The Fact that he did not Ijivc the phone number, that he had to have information get it Meanwhile we kept getting calls about the boat in trouble. Cardinal and I assured them that the GUARD was being, contacted, to stand by. Parsons kept running back and forth asking questions such as: the name of the boat (KR LYNN), it’s location, registration number, the size and color of the boat, and the nature of the trouble. He was told that a 38 foot charter boat with 8 people on board. Finally the CMCG contacted the FORTESQUE COAST GOARD who in turn contacted the boat and told them that they would be there in twenty minutes. I then congratulated Parsons and Cardinal for a job well

done.

Parsons then told me that the CMCG number was 884-3491. The next day I called the CMCG and asked them for the FORTESQUE number. It is 1-609-447-4422. I gave them a list of the questions asked and asked them if the information was sufficient. They assured me that it was. Eveiy member of THE HELPING HAND is asked to note this information in case they should be called upon for help. Get this information before calling the GUARD. This will save a lot of valuable time. In closing I wish to inform everyone that from early morning to late at night there is always someone from . THE HELPING HAND listening^ to Channel 20 in case anyone needs help.
