who got the released marlin on Joe's boat Hank Peddle of Avalon, on the "Ijucky Ducks III" got the prize for releasing a marlin on the second day-although they didn’t win any prizes, the young men from Rosemans Boat Ybrd served notice that they are going to be in the running in future canyon tournaments. Joey Roseman on the "French Leave" had a released marlin the first day-one of two with 53

boots fishing.

Donald Roseman on the Nancy Marie" had five large tuna, and David Roseman took Bill Bright. Phil Tomlin. Nick Hooker, and "Bud" Chircio out on the “Top Drawer" Saturday, and came back with 15 tuna in Ute 40 to 50 pound range These young salts showed that they know about canyon fishing, and I predict they will be placing in the future. In the meantime, inshore (’apt A1 Nace, on the “Hucklebuck" had 31 slammer blues with 5 anglers fishing, and quite a few of the party boats did real well on big blues over the weekend Now that the gas shortage is over we can look fofr catches of big blues. Honito. and blue fin tuna irtsbore along with doormatflounder. In the Bay some areas that were good in drum season are starting to produijj. Isabelle Hawkey, of Rem; Beach, told me that Mark Tomlin on the "Gone Fishin" has had some very good catches of weakfish in the Bug Light area, and also that fellows using minnows were scoring heavily on flounder in the bay. Minnows are a good bait, either in the Ocean. Bay, or sounds for flounder. They are available at Hai|$ Landing, South Jersey Fishing and hunting center, Jim Wallaces, and Roseman's Boat yard. I look for wrech fishing topick up too. Paul Hoffman told me he was out Saturday with Jim Monaghan, and they caught a box full of 3<* to 5 pound sea bass in the Ocean-so all our fishing is

coming into its own now, and with gas available now we should see lots of catches of different species The South Jersey Fishing and Hunting center’s tournament only produced 9 marlin, but I believe that the Cape May County marlin tournament's boats will find a lot more on July 17. 18 and 19th as the bill fish move up from the South-Sword fish ought to start to show as more overnighters are being

fished.

The awards dinner for the Delaware Bay Drumfish Derby sponsored by the Lower Township Chamber of Commerce was held Friday night at Billy Mulligan's Inn on Bayshore Road in the Villas-The Grand prize winner, with a 86 pound 5 ounce drum was Richer Redden, of the Villas. Runner-up was George Seabrook, of Cape May Court Hose, with an 80 pound 5 ounce drum, which was high for the first week. Other weekly winners were: Luis Silva, Penn-sgrovo-79 pound drum-Tom McVey, Wildood-73 pound drum, and William H. Warming, Sicklerville, N.J. 62 pound drum As I wrote this piece the gas troubles were nonexistent. Now, with the independent gas dealers in Pennsylvania and Delaware on strike the whole fishing picture has changed. Some fellows are bringing their boats down with l&ded gas tanks, but not fishing, sjo that they will have gas to get home. The party boats (head boatsr are feeling a definite slow down in fishermen, but the fishing remains good. They only thing that happened for good last weekend was that Sky Lab didn't fall on Cape May County. It looks like there's plenty of gas, but we just have to get a fair allocation system for the dealers. The Cape May County marlin tournament is definitely on, and I'll try to have a full report on it next week for you. Cape Women’s Softball CAPE MAY - The first place Hut Restaurant, alias the • , run-machine" whitewashed P & K Associates 9-0? Sharon Mericle tossed a stellar shutout while Mickey Mastracchio and Sherri Hickok provided' the punch with their Home runs. The Anchor Inn, the 1978 league champs, now in championship form brough down the Hut in a 9-5 nail-

biter.

P & K Associates bounced back and landed on Middle Township Recreation for a 14-4 verdict. Jan Frazier’s smacked a Home run, Denise Stnith rapped a pair of doubles and Ronni McCarthey drove in two runs to pace the Associates.
