A few columns back, I praised the soundtrack for the Who’s new movie,“The Kids Are Alright.” Since then, I was fortunate enough to see the Him, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who is interested in pop music. Director Jeff Stein has done an amazing job recreating The Who’s fifteen year history in ninety-six minutes. Reuses live and television footage, mixing it with promo flims and interviews, to tell his
story.
Throughouf’The Kids Are Alright”, it’s made clear The Who were always a band and each member contributed equally to the end result. From their early, angry young mod days to the present. The Who have weathered even the roughest times thanks to their unique brand of humor and loyalty to the group. This movie clearly points out they’ll miss Keith Moon’s wildness and jovial attitude, yet that Peter Townshend, Roger Daltrey , and John Entwistle will continue. After all, the group is bigger than its members. When "The Kids Are Alright" makes it to area theatres, check it out, it’s certainly worthy of your attention. Edgar Winter has been toying with blues and jazz influenced rock for years, Church Bazaar WILDWOOD - The Women of the North Wildwood United Church, 2nd and Central Aves, will hold their Annual Bazaar in the Pavilion, Maple Ave, and the Bqardwalk Aug. 6 to Aug. 11,1 p.m. to 11 p.m. All welcome.
and , while he’s often quite entertaining in concert, Ms records have been rather tedious. His new longplayer for Blue Sky doesn’t change a thing. Instead of striving to say r.ometNng origional, Edgar has opted for sqjne substandard disco arrangements and unemotional singing. Pass
this one by.
The squel to "American Graffiti” will be out any day, but you can get a headstart by picking up the new soundtrack, "More American Graffiti"<MCA). This time, the emphasis is on the sixties, and some of the artisit features are Martha &The Vandellas, The Byrds, Simon & Garfunkel, Donovan, Cream, Supremes, Bob Dylan, Aretha Franklin and The Zombies. There are a lot of classics on tNs two -record set. Gram Parsons death took awway one of the most promising country and^ western talents.*' Remembered mostly for discovering and singing with Emmylou Harris, dnd his work with The Byrds and , Flying Burrito Brothers, Parsons covered a lot of ground in his short life. “The Early Years 196^965" (Sierra-Briar) is straight country, with a healthy dose of bluegrass, ami, although quite young, Gram Parsons’ voice was jstill filled withpassion and ■conviction. For non-fans, it mighl be a better idea to pick up his later records first, but, once hearing those, everyone will want to rush out and pick "The Early Years” up.
