Continuing his survey of high school teacher's summer jobs, the Old Sport finds that not all have plush jobs for the summer. "Ole Faithful" Carl Baker chefs at the Middle Diner while Art Tuer drives a CocaCola truck and Phil Exley drives delivery truck for Fred's Tavern in Stone Harbor. But the Guidance Dept, finds jobs commensurate with their level of intelligence. Dave Blood fools around with computers, while Larry Kelly manages a miniature golf course in Stone Harbor. Ray Batz is a gentleman of leisure this summer only putting in a tour of duty with the Air National Guard. He claims he is protecting our lives ftsk tsk!). Richie De Rose, younger brother of Joe DeRose, and himself a star athlete at Middle Township High, who went on to the Naval Academy at Annapolis is visiting in Stone Harbor. He is another computer expert. Brother Joe was the best defensive center the Old Sport ever observed in High School football. He played both ways back in the late forties before the age of specialization set in. After' playing for coach Tom Crist at Middle, Joe went on to play college ball at Villanova. Joe has a young son who at the tender age of five promises to be another star when he gets to high school. He already tips the scale at 75 pounds. Taking a survey Af the

Middle seniors, the Old Sport learns that Andy Garcia, most valuable player on last year’s Panthers, is working on the Avalon Beach Patrol. He gets into shape for football at Widener College in Pa. by running every day. rowing a boat and riding a bike. Younger brother Mark is also a lifeguard. Kelly Champion will go to West Liberty College in Virginia while John Richardson, winner of the Douglas Trophy this year will attend West Chester College in Pa. He is working at the Avalon Exxon for the summer. Bill King pumps gas at the Avalon Gulf. Lance Harrison, tennis star, is working at McClure’s Gulf in Mavville. The Board of Education has not yet acted on Coach Chick Ludman s letter of resignation as basketball coach at Middle. The Athletic Committee will meet on Aug. 7 and recommend action to the full board which meets later in the month. It would be a shame to lose a coach of Ludman's calibre over the matter of $500. Ernie Ross and Joe DeRose think there was no one better than Tom Crist, who only stayed two years, going on to Millville and then into college coaching at ShippensburgPa. Please let the Old Sport know your feelings on this subject by writing to him in care of the Herald. Box O. Avalon.
