Hughes said he pressed the Army Corps and the State of New Jersey to do the dredging to head off a potentially dangerous situation for boaters who ipe the two Inlets "In recent weeks, many boats have had a difficult ^he navigating the Inlets
because large amounts of sand have been building up in the channels." Hughes said. .Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, and Bernard Moore of the DEPs Office of Shore Protection, for their quick response to the situation. Hughes has been negotiation this arrangement between the Army Corps and the State for several seeks, the discussions were snagged, however, because the dredge which the Corps plans to use in new Jersey has been docked in Norfolk, Va., and its crew has been scattered around the country to work on other dredges. Hughes said the Army Corffc has developed a plan to mobilize the crew, and he expects the dredge "Frye" t<T arrive in Cape May County sometime late next week. Specific details on the scope of the dredging projects are not yet available, because the State has not completed its feasibility studies on the two Inlets. However, Hughes said he has been assured that the dredging will be thorough, apd will make the Inlets safe for navigation.
