Feeling Good

George and Kathy Lutz moved into their Long Island dream home December 18, 1975. Twenty-eight days later they fled in terror. Their story is the tale called "The Amityville Horror". Allegedly, the house was possessed by evil spirits seeking retribution of the Lutz's stay. Duriqg that time George and Kathy Lutz, along with their three children, were victimized by unsightly, resolutely malevolent demons. The demons were said to have complete control over their house and over their lives. Among the unnatural occurrences were nightly levitations, unseen voices, excessive property damage, the clamoring sounds of a marching band, and last but not least, green slime oozing from door key holes. Sounds like a great horror flick, doesn't it? Supnsingly, it is true, at least so claims Jay Anson, the author of "The Amityville Horror". It is said that a plot of land the house is built near was once used as an asylum by the Shinnecock Indians for the insame, sick, or dying. However, the Shinnecocks did not use this tract as a burial ground because they believed it to be possessed and infested with demons. Then in the pioneering days of white settlers, a John Ketcham was forced out of Salem, Mass, for practicing witchcraft. Ketcham
set up residence within 500 ft. of the Lutz tract of land, continuing his alleged devil worship. He was buried somewhere on the northeast corner of the property. The house had been built in 1928 and passed through several families until 1965, when the DeFeo family moved in, Unfortunately, the DeFeo's were the victims of a tragic mass murder by their own son. The Lute's moved into the house pne year later, after the tragedy All in all the book is fantastically told with mements of fright and sheer horror. There must have been some unearthly spirit which forced an entire family out of a new house to live elsewhere. However, it is hard to conceive that any such story isn’t slightly exaggerated or the truth twisted a bit. Presently, the book is subject of litigation because of unknown truths and alleged inaccuracies. As they say, don't believe everything you read.
