Family Day Agenda Grows

AVALON - Anticipation for Avalon’s first Family Day is growing more and more each day as events are being added to the

agenda.

The most recent is a Fast Bicycle Race, that will start at 8:30 a.m. August 25. Originally, the race was scheduled earlier in the month, but it was decided that more cyclists would

take part in the gala "Family Day” which is dedicated to the International Year of the Child. It is also aimed at helping provide family entertainment all day long while reducing gasoline

consumption.

The Bike Race will begin at 8th Street and Dune Drive. The length of the race will be three miles and will be run on Dune Drive

AVALON — Does your child know how to swim? If not, there’s an opportunity right in Avalon to have your child become a swimmer and all it costs is time. . Hundreds of local children have already learned how to swim in the Borough sponsored "Learn To Swim" program instructed by Mrs. Marlene Clayton and held in the waters just off Bay Park and at the Whitebriar Swimming Pool. Children Age 5 and over are urged to take part in this free program that will last from August 20 to 31st. Parents may register their youngsters at the Community Hall 30th Street and Avalon Avenue any weekday from 9 a.m. until noon. All instructors are Red Cross Certified Water Safety Instructors and all have experience

teaching youngsters how to swim. This learn to Swim program is one of the many on-going recreational programs thaking place in Avalon, according to summer recreation director Douglas MacAuley. Ham Dinner Set

STONE HARBOR - The Choir of Our Saviour Lutheran Church in Stone Harbor will sponsor a Ham Dinner with all the fixin’s Sat., Aug. 18 between 5 and 7p.m. Tickets are $4.50 for adults and $2.50 for children. The dinner will be held at the Parish Hall, 92nd Street and Third Avenue and tickets cani>e purchased from any choir member or at the door.

All cyclists age 8 and over are eligible for the contest, which will begin the day-long series of contests and events, that will help make Avalon’s Family Day a day to remember. Cyclists must register at Community Hall any weekday from 9 a.m. until Noon to enter. There will be a close alliance of child-parent games so that the overall theme of International Year of the Child can be adhered to and family participation can be maximized. After the day’s events are concluded and all the trophies are given out, the Community Hall will turn into a Ballroom by the Sea and will be filled with the Big Band Sounds of A1 Raymond and his Orchestra beginning at 9 p.m. and lasting all evening. The dance is certain to be a popular one since the Big Band Sounds are enjoying a comeback as younger Americans learn to appreciate that great musical

era.

Avalon Zoning

Bd. Reorganizes . AVALON-On August 2, the Zoning Board of Adjustment of the Borough of Avalon held a reorganizational meeting. Pauline Petrica was elected as the Board's new Chairlady, Richard Pedroni was elected ViceChairman, John H. Mead, Esquire,*was reappointed as the Board’s Solicitor, and Sandra Ditzler, as Secretary. The Board rescheduled its monthly meeting dates. Unless otherwise advised, the Zoning Board will hold its regular monthly meetings on the first Thursday of each month at 8 p.m. on the Meeting Room of the Borough Hall, 3100 Dune Drive, Avalon. A schedule of dates for the balance of calendar year 1979 is as follows: September 6, October 4, November 1, Decembers.
