Anion Suspected Investigators Probe Fire

THE FIRESIDE RESTAURANT’S name look on literal significance last week when a fire that gutted three stores next door to the establishment on the boardwalk. The restaurant sustained smoke and water damage. The fire was the second on the boardwalk in five days.

WILbWOOD - Arson is strongly suspected os the cause of a boardwalk fire that gutted three stores last week, the second such fire in five days. An investigation into the cause of the fire that destroyed a building between Young and Roberts Avenues was still underway Tuesday, a Wildwood fire official said. The destroyed building housed the Ringo Bingo Hall, the Goldfinger jewelry store and an ice cream stand. An apart ment building behind the building was also destroyed. An adjacent department store and the Fireside Restaurant sustained smoke and water damage. Total damaged are estimated at $1.5 million. The fire was reported at about 10; 30 a.m. according to Bob Heston. North Wildwood Fire official. North Wildwood. Anglesea and West Wildwood were called in to assist the

Wildwood Fire Co. in battling the blaze. Several firefighters were treated ’-and released at Burdette Tomlin Hospital for smoke inhalation. Firefighters battled the fire which billowed dense

smoke over the boardwalk and onto the beach Jor three hours. An early morning blaze Aug. 3 destroyed several stores between 24th and 25th Sts. That fire has been ruled accidental.
