Family Day Approaches

AVALON - PoUce Chief Joseph E. Foley states that police equipment and police officers will be on display at the First Annual Family Day, which is being held on August 25, 1979 at the Community Hall, 30th Street & the Beach, Avalon. The police display will be from 10 a.m. to*2 p.m. with equipment such as marked patrol vehicles, radar units, displays of awards, etc. and will be shown to the public with their functions being explained by members of his police department. There will be

AVALON - There’s a bustle of activity all over the Borough as Avalon’s first Family Day draws closer. On Saturday, August 25, Avalon residents will leave their cars home and enjoy a good day-long family event that will have something for each family member. There will be bike races, games and activities, pony cart rides, a majic show, band music, awards and door prizes. Then, to end the fantastic day, an adult dance to the music of A1 Raymond : and his Orchestra playing the Big Band Sounds. Family Day is being dedicated to the "International Year of the Child and as such, is family oriented “Family Day” is scheduled to start on Saturday morning at 8:30 with the running down to 19th Street around the islands on Dune Drive. Registration for both this and the children (age 8-12) race has been slated for Community Hall at 30th Street and Avalon Avenue any weekday prior to the event from 9 a.m. - noon. The three mile race will help to build enthusiasm for the rest of the day’s events. Members of the Avalon Recreation Committee have worked tirelessly on the project, and are looking for a good turnout of town’s people. The aim of the day is to help reduce energy consumption and give families something interesting and exciting to do. Many Borough youn{$ters and others are working on a poster and essay contest to help publicize the event around the resort. There are hundreds upon hundreds of local people who have seen the many fine posters, drawn by local children telling of the day long event and there are the people who will be reading the best essay from the contest that tells about "Family Day.” Winners of these, and other events that will be held on August 25 will receive their prizes from Little Miss Avalon, 1979 Megan Westhead and her

court.

Door prizes will be given to the lucky winners, entrants must place their entry blank into the box on

The afternoon musicale will feature the "Tex Arnold Band" and die "Frannie Green Band” Late night, Big Band Music for the adult dance will be provided by A1 Raymond

Seniors Outing

AVALON — The Avalon Senior Citliens will have their Annual Outing on

Sept. 11.

This year the program will commence with departure from Cape May by ferry at 11 a.m., to Lewes, Delaware where a Dus will take the group to Lou lanire’s Resturant for lunch. The choice of entree will be crab cakes or roast beef. Following the luncheon, the bus will take the folks back to the ferry for t total cost for "this outing will be $7 each, including gratuities. Members may bring guests and prospective members may also share in this outing.
