Summer jobs of the Middle Twp. Football coaches are interesting. As revealed before, Phil Exley drives a delivery (ruck for Fred's Tavern of Stone Harbor. Brian, Tetley works for the Tycoon. Fred Grosse, driving a crib rental truck. Norm Smith is with the Cape May Beach Patrol and Newcomer John Kaighn is a combination motel clerk and lifeguard at the Sea Isle Inn. Numern Uno’s In Softball Number one fan in Cape May County must be Frank Klebayer, father of the 1st baseman for Palmer Chevrolet. He attends every game and has sponsored the team in weekend tournaments. Too bad more fans don’t turn out to watch this SloPitch Softball. It’s exciting, with lots of action. Number one pure hitter in this Old Sport’s humble opinion is still Don Rhinesmith of Rick’s of Rio Grande, despite the claims of his fellow Palmer Chevrolet players that Kevin Sherman is better at • jacMng ” the ball. Number one authority on softball still has to be Keith Seaman, who can explain every play of the j»ame to you. Just mention softball andl^'soff! CafT Baker and Gregg Arnold of the Middle Recreation Dept, are concerned about their loss of revenue. They’ll have to lay off their CETA workers and call a halt to their program of expansion. By the way has everybody seen the spic and span Quonset Hut with its coat of paint? This was originally a garage for the old Tyler Lumber Co. and was later taken over by the Township to garage the Highway Dept’s vehicles. Now it belongs to the Recreation Commission and will be operating around the 1st of
Sept.
seen the likes of Rick Harmon, Mitch Hand and Doug Fulford in past years and now has Tommy Gihorski and will entertain Joe DiGiacome and Doug Fulford later on. Rick Harmon npwvserves as a. counsello™nhecamp. Basebalnjji coming to an end and fotfijall is coming on the sceft now. Middle Township’s team had a miserable record in the Atlantic-Cape May County League and it is hoped they will find some good players next year. They can't be expected to beat the Pleasantville A’s and Linwood and Margate, but they could at least hold them to a respectable score. Losses by scores of 13-1, etc, leave a pretty bad impression of local baseball. Let’s hope for a
better future.
The Middle Township Recreation Dept, will be opening it’s newly painted and complete refurbished Quonset Hut to the public in Sept. It is too bad that more publicity hasn’t been released about this undertaking, for only a few insiders know that the building wihc originally housed the Tyler Lumber Co. trucks, and then the equipment of the Middle Twp. Highway Dept, has been acquired by the Recreation Dept. Ptfll, the "Great Dictator" Exley and his staff of Norm "Apollo Smith, Brian "Muscles'’ Tetfcy (he -doesn’t like the. cognomen "Tea Man”, and new member John ’’Harpe” Kaighn are rounding the Middle Township . Panthers into shape at Memorial Field and lacking weight, the offense will depend on speed and quickness to dazzle the opponents. Enthusiasm is there on the squad and if desire will accomplishlLthey will surprise /Hie Hammonton
