Old Brick (From Page 1) to have been with the congregation shortly after it was founded, and perhaps was instrumental in having a church erected. He owned and lived on an estate of 200 acres next to the church grounds. Bradner's Run, on the east side of grounds was named for him. Before he left for another ministry, his land was either purchased or given to the church. The second church, a frame and shingle building somewhat larger than the first, was built near the gates of the old grave yeard, around the year 1761. In ,1623, the present church was erected. Bricks were brought from Philadelphia to build it, also to construct the light house at Cape may Point. At this time, these were the only structures in the county made of brick (aside f rom chimneys). In the cemetery of the church are the graves of many of Cape May County’s first settler. It is believed that there are more Mayflower descendants buried here than in any one spot outside of Massachusetts. Of the 50 passengers who left
descendants, one married into the Sbllden family. Their children married members of the Learning, Eldridge, Stites, Hughes, Swain and Ewing families. Throughout the years, Cape May Countians have tended to remain in the county and many local residents, and the blood of the Pilgrims runs through the veins of many.
