An esUmated 640,000 children in New Jefsey will use U.000 school buses daily this year, an increase of some 110,000 students

since 1969.

The New Jersey State Safety Council says a factor in school bus safety is the behavior of the student passengers. The Council urges parents to make sure their children are ready to accept their part in making school buses safe, and makes the following recommendations: -Pupils should leave their homes early enough to reach the bus stop in time for the bus, but without undue haste that

Homes For Teenagers Needed

RIO GRANDE - The need for foster parents to accept adolescents in Cape May County is reaching critical proportions. The State of New Jersey Division of Youth and Family Services is attempting to recruit good people interested in being substitute parents for teenagers. Teenagers who lose their parents through illness, family disorganization, desertion or abuse and feel they are not wanted may carry scars that can

remain with them through adulthood. These children need help. They need understanding foster parents who can provide the kind of home and family structure that will support them in their struggle for independence and provide adequate guidance and set limits for their behavior. Foster parents are provided with training, board payment, medicaid, clothing allowances and the positive feeling of helping a teen become a productive adult. The

leads to a lack of caution. -When it is necessary for the children to walk along a road rather than a saidwalk to reach the bus stop, they should walk facing traffic. They should keep as far to the left of the shoulder as possible. If there is no shoulder, or if it is narrow or wet and slippery, they should not walk more than two abreast. Single file is better, and a group should never spread out over a major part erf the roadway. -While waiting for the bus to arrive, students should remain well off the traveled portion of the roadway and board the bus without delay, but without crowding or pushing. They should take their seats promptly and remain in them until the bus has

reached its destination and has stopped completely. -The passengers should obey the driver’s directions promptly and willingly. -Children should be taught not to put their heads or arms out the windows. They should not

throw things about inside the bus or out of windows or doors. -The children should understand the use of emergency doors, but should not tamper with them during normal travel.
